Preparation

While walking back to their home, another ex-military man, who also served with Liam and Mick by the name of Richard saw them walking by his house and came running out of his house to talk to Liam. "Hey Liam! Did Mick send you the bulletin too?" he asked. "Yeah. The wife isn't too happy about it though. I promised her and the girls I was done. She slapped me in the face when I told her." Liam showed him the slap mark on his face which was now just slightly red. "I'm sorry." He said as he looked at Lana who was fixing her daughter's ponytail. "It actually gets worse. It's not just ex-military and civilians. it's also law enforcement. They are drafting all law enforcement officers too. In other words, every city and town will be without any police if something goes wrong!" Lana snapped her head to look at Liam and Richard. "What? Are you serious? What's going to happen to those of us left behind? Is something going to happen to us here in the States while we're all unprotected?" Lana asked. Liam could see her chocolate brown eyes widen with panic. Liam faced her and cupped her face in his hands and looked her in the eyes. "Everything will be okay baby. I've taught you everything I know. You can handle a gun, and you know how to clear a room. You also fight better than I do. If it comes down to it, I know you can handle it." He turned to Richard. "Do you have a game plan for your family?" Richard nodded his head. "My wife and kids know where to go if s**t hits the fan while I'm gone. They will meet your wife and girls at the rendezvous spot and head to the safe zone." Lana couldn't believe what she was hearing. Liam and Richard were talking about what route to the safe zone would be best to take without being seen. All Lana could think about was how she was going to handle the girls while under attack. They practiced the different routes many times before, but for the girls it was just a long walk and fun time with mommy and daddy. They would be scared and confused if there were gunshots all around them. Once Liam and Richard were done talking they wished each other luck and Richard went back inside his house. While Lana and Liam continued walking their girls home, Liam asked "Are you okay Lana?" Lana looked at him and said" I don't know if I can do this without you Liam! No, actually I don't WANT to do this without you! All the preparations we made were with the assumption that you would be with us when things went south. How am I supposed to do this alone without you?" Liam wrapped his arms around her and said "You can do it baby. When we get home, we can go over the game plan and make sure that all the go bags are packed with everything you and the girls will need. If it makes you feel better, maybe we should go tonight instead of waiting till things go south. That way I'm still with you to help with Freya and Amara and make sure that all my girls are safe before I go." When they got home, they started going through their backpacks to make sure that everything they needed was in them. They also got their girls ready by getting little backpacks for them to carry as well. Liam texted Richard and told him that he had decided to take us to the safe zone tonight instead of waiting. Lana was right, he didn't want her to have to bring the girls to the safe zone without him either. This was the only way to ensure that they got there safely and not have to worry about them getting killed when he was gone. Richard texted back saying he would join us with his family too. Lana called her dad and told him about what was going on and that he should get his things packed and ready to go as well. He reluctantly agreed and said he would call the rest of the family members too. Liam did the same with his dad and he would let the rest of his family know as well. They all didn't live in the same town or the same state, but they all had their own safe zones to go to. Lana and Liam just hoped that they all got there safely. With all of their backpacks on and supplies in hand, they met up with Richard and his family. They met them at the rendezvous and headed in the direction of the safe zone. For the last four years, Liam, Lana, Richard and his wife Rea have been building an underground bunker and stocking it with food and supplies to last the eight of us for at least twenty years. They all had great paying jobs, so they always put at least $2,000 each into the food and for supplies every other paycheck. Nobody knew about the bunker but them because they built it themselves and had no outside help. While walking to the bunker, Lana couldn't help but think about how building their bunker started. Five years ago, Liam and Richard had just returned home from their last rotation overseas and couldn't wait to get back to their wives and children back home. About a month after returning home, Liam and Richard got together and decided they wanted to build an underground bunker and made plans to ensure that their families were safe if anything ever happened. Lana and Rea agreed and helped them in any way they could. All four of them had taken a job at a construction company a year before building their own bunker, so they could learn everything they needed to know, so they wouldn't need any outside help. It took a whole year to get it built because they also had jobs and couldn't always be working on it. At that time, their wives had stored all the food and supplies in their homes until they could move it into the bunker. When they finished building the bunker, Lana and Rea decorated and furnished it so it would be more homey. The bunker was quite big and spacious and everyone had their own rooms that were also quite spacious. The food and supplies area was the biggest part, however, because they wanted to make sure that they had enough for them to last so they never had to go out to get anything. Every time they got new food and supplies and didn't have enough room, they would add onto it. They had all just added on to it a week ago and filled it when this all happened and had inventoried everything, and it showed they had at least twenty years worth of food and supplies. They knew it was overkill, but they had been doing it for four years now, and it was a habit. Now that it was time to actually use it, they were grateful that they had that much.
