Blood Moon: Pigeon
CRASH My eyes flew open, instantly awake. I wasn't sure if the crash I had heard was from my dream or from someone downstairs. Creak.. "Shit." Realizing the noise I heard was real, I slid out of bed silently, landing on my fluffy white rug. "Carter?" I called quietly for my brother, hoping he would hear me through the thin walls of our old home. I listened for a reply, but when nothing came, from Carter or downstairs, I decided to go to his door. Around the squeaky board, one of the many, I knocked three times on Carter's door. That was our signal. "Carter?" I knocked again, waiting for him to answer. Another creak came from the stairs, and I jumped. Hitting Cater's door harder than before, I called out to him while I reached for the knob. "Carter! Carter!" I twisted the doorknob, sighing when it was locked. He always locked his door. In the darkened stairwell, I could see someone beginning to come around the curve. I froze, terrified of the strange person in my home. I backed away from Carter's door, inching toward mine when the stranger wearing a strange jacket with a hood, finally came off the stairs. Taking off the hood, I saw that the stranger was a pretty lady who looked very nice from her smile to her dark brown eyes. "Hi there sweetie. Do you remember me?" her voice stopped my inching backwards. I didn't know her, but I recognized her voice. I had heard her voice before. Shaking my head, I watched as her eyes went from me to the window above my head and back to me. I wrapped my arms around my chest on instinct. Snapping her eyes away from the window, she smiled slowly. Speaking in a language I didn't know, the woman whispered "Inter me et pueri huius fiducia vestræ concinnant." Instantly, I felt like I should trust her. I didn't need to be scared, she wasn't going to hurt me. Looking at her with wide eyes, I whispered "Who are you?" as she continued to stare at me. I dropped my arms, and took a step closer to her. "I am someone who has come to help you, sweet girl." She took a step towards me, and looked at the window again. I turned with her, and saw the moon looking very different than it normally did. It was a bright red, and so large I felt like I could reach out and touch it. I took a step towards the window to get a better look when her nails dug into my head. "Oww... Please stop." Looking at the moon as she pressed her fingers into my head, I tried to turn. All the woman said was "Nunc somnum." When I woke up a few minutes later, I was laying on my fluffy rug. I knew that only a few minutes had passed because I could still see the moon's red light coming in through the open door. My lavender nightgown had been pulled over my belly, coloring my skin with the light of a candle the strange woman had lit on the floor. Sitting up, I let my gown fall back down over my belly, and her head turned to me briefly before she said "Et ponere. Proinde parce motus." My head slammed against the wood floor below my rug, and black spots blocked some of what I could see. "What... what are you doing?" I whispered, unable to fear the woman enough to scream. "Sweet girl, special girl. You are destined for great things. I can see it, Coven be damned. I have a secret, and I need someone to keep it with me." "I can keep your secret!" I smiled. I was really good at keeping secrets according to Carter. "I know you can. But I need to make sure you will never ever tell anyone." "I won't, I promise!" "Well, I don't trust you." I frowned. "Why do you-" The woman began to speak and I was shocked by her words. She was speaking in that strange language again. "Benedicite huius cultro. Ut recepto robore. Fac ut acuti. Sit ut secet precise mea. Iulii nocte volo visere nostra potestate dea lunae filiam imponere per sanguinem huic puero..." "What are you saying?" I asked her, curious about the new words that I had never heard. "How about you tell me your name and I'll tell you what I'm doing?" she replied without looking at me. I knew I couldn't give her my real name, so I answered her with "Pigeon." "Okay, Pigeon. I'm doing magic. Dark magic. And I need you to be quiet. Nunc silentium." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the candle flame move. The strange woman was running a long knife through the flame. Is she going to kill me?
