Chapter 2

Sarah's POV: Early the next morning, Ethan drove Nora back to her hometown. Meanwhile, I took the bus to work as usual. During my lunch break, the hospital suddenly called. "Ms. Sinclair, please come to the hospital right away. Your sister's condition has suddenly taken a turn for the worse." I rushed to the hospital, where the nurse handed me my sister's phone. "The patient went through a major emotional shock before she collapsed. As her family, you have the right to know what's on here." With trembling hands, I took the phone. The screen was open to Nora's social media account. In the latest photo, Nora was standing side-by-side with Ethan, wearing a wedding dress. Both of them had radiant, happy smiles on their faces. Ethan's arm was wrapped around Nora's waist. Nora leaned against his chest, smiling like a joyful child. Her caption read: Thank you, Ethan, for making my dream come true. This is my dream wedding. My sister had left several comments in a row underneath. [Nora Whitfield, you're a college graduate. Do you have no sense of decency or the law?] [Ethan Crawford and my sister are legally married. You're just a homewrecker trying to ruin a family.] Nora had replied with a giant smiley face. Nora: [The one who isn't loved is the real other woman.] I went through the call history. My sister had called Ethan fifty times. He hadn't answered even once. The nurse glanced at the screen and sighed. "The patient has just recovered and cannot handle any stress. I suggest you sort out your personal matters properly." I bit my lip, unable to utter a single word. The emergency resuscitation lasted until midnight. The first thing my sister said when she opened her eyes was, "Sarah, what is going on between you and Ethan?" I tucked her in. "He fell for someone else. I don't want to live with him anymore." My sister stared at me for a long time. Finally, she shook her head firmly. "Sarah, you can't leave him. You haven't worked in five years, and your education is limited. If you leave him, you won't survive." She continued, "Besides, he and Nora only took some wedding photos. It is not as if he actually cheated on you. A successful man like Ethan was bound to have women throwing themselves at him. You need to be more open-minded." She grew more and more agitated as she spoke. The monitor began to beep an alarm. Looking at her pale face, tears streamed down my cheeks, leaving me with no choice but to lie. "Okay, I'll stay with him and make things work." My sister let out a long sigh of relief. "Sarah, just let it go. Living a good life is more important than anything else." I walked out of the ward. I saw Ethan slowly walking toward me. His custom-tailored suit accentuated his tall, upright stature. The hospital director and the department head were standing beside him. The director was holding the test results, explaining my sister's condition to him. He nodded slightly. My sister was immediately transferred to a VIP ward. He wielded immense power and wealth. With a wave of his hand, he could bring in the most prestigious specialists. He could also make me swallow my pride and beg him for 100,000. Once everyone else had left, Ethan turned his gaze to me. "I heard what you and your sister said. Since you've decided to stay with me, stop talking about us being even." I glanced at my phone. It was 7:10 AM. "Excuse me, I need to get to work." Ethan frowned. "Your sister just had surgery, and you're still going to that pathetic job of yours?" I looked up at him. "If I'm late, I'll lose my perfect attendance bonus. It's 500 dollars."
