Chapter 3

Sarah's POV: Ethan frowned and grabbed my arm. "I let you get a job so you would understand how hard it is to earn money and willingly come back to me. I didn't mean for you to use it to throw a tantrum. If you want to truly grow up, you should learn from Nora's maturity and sense of propriety." I scoffed. "Having a wedding ceremony with someone else's husband is her idea of propriety?" He pinched the bridge of his nose, his tone growing increasingly impatient. "I only went back with her to put on a fake wedding to stop her elders from pressuring her into marriage. Nothing is going on between us." I couldn't be bothered to call him out on his lies. If Nora really knew her place, she wouldn't have brought Ethan back home with her. "I'm really going to be late." Ethan checked his watch. "I'll drive you." Realizing I only had half an hour left and would have to transfer between three buses to get from the hospital to my office, I nodded. In the parking lot, I habitually reached to open the front passenger door. Only to see Nora sitting comfortably in the seat. She was holding Ethan's tablet, her legs propped up on the dashboard, happily watching a show. Seeing me, she gave a faint smile. "Sarah, I get terrible motion sickness. Would you mind sitting in the back?" Without a word, I shut the passenger door and got into the back seat. As the car pulled out of the hospital, Nora reached into the glove compartment, pulled out a blanket, and draped it over herself. She turned to Ethan, her smile sweet. "Mr. Crawford, I've practically seen all your secrets by now. Did you change your passcode today?" Ethan glanced at me through the rearview mirror, his voice flat. "Too busy. Forgot." Nora turned around to explain to me in a serious tone, "Sarah, please don't misunderstand." "Mr. Crawford was driving earlier and asked me to use his phone to navigate for him," she explained. "But the screen kept locking, and I couldn't remember your birthday. Since he was driving and couldn't be distracted, I took it upon myself to change the passcode to my birthday." After saying this, she lowered her head bashfully. "I didn't expect him to still not have changed it back." Ethan held the steering wheel and teased, "Well, I couldn't have a dummy like you asking me for the code the entire way." The two of them laughed and chatted, leaving me sitting in the back like an outsider. I suddenly remembered not too long ago, when I had gotten upset, gotten out of the car, and sat by the side of the road crying for two whole hours. Ethan didn't even get out of the car. Eventually, I got tired of crying, opened the door myself, and swallowed my pride. "Ethan, I was impulsive. Let's go home." Now, I was sitting in the back seat, calmly handling work on my phone. May Campbell sent a message. May: The client has already arrived in the reception room. I took the documents to them first. Drive safely. "Don't misunderstand about the phone password." Seeing that I hadn't spoken for a long time, Ethan offered a rare explanation. "I didn't." Through the rearview mirror, I saw his brow furrow slightly. Nora Whitfield turned around and smiled at me. "You're so generous now, Sarah. Mr. Crawford and I are going to inspect the company this afternoon. Why don't we go in together?" I gripped my phone tightly and said nothing. Only then did I remember that the company I was currently working at was owned by Ethan's friend. Everyone thought they were a couple. And I was the other woman who got in through the back door.
