New Comings
As Demi curiously set her purple and black striped backpack on her first desk of her senior year she turned to her childhood best friend.
"Hey, Alio, aren't you excited for our final year of high school?" She asked, enthusiastically
Alio chuckled. "Of course, Demi. I can't wait to finish the year and join the council. (The council was a big group of people who watched over their hometown, Selio.)
Selio was all the two ever knew. It was blooming with flower fields and forests. It had tall bright buildings, and some small buildings that were not so bright. The town also had one giant building in the middle of the town with big open windows and it was 24 stories tall. It was where the people in the council worked. They worked on the top floor of the building known as The Sempire Building. It was famous for housing the council and all their employees.
Now, the homes for the families who lived in this tree surrounded town felt like farms and most of the people who lived in the very beloved town had been there since birth. The people who first founded the town started the group known as the Council in the Sempire Building. They put all the rules in place and built a school to teach the children to follow the rules of the town hoping one day the new generation would take their place and keep the rules they implemented in the blooming town. Then the team built homes as far as 100 feet from the tree lines. Trees surrounded the town from every direction and it was the council's duty to keep everyone inside.
Alio’s dream was to one day join the council. He was almost 18 and graduated from school. He just had to complete his final year and take the big test. Alio had been waiting to take the test since he heard they gave it to the seniors on their last day of school. He never skipped a day.
Demitri however hated the council and the rules they put in place in order to protect the people of the town. Her least favorite rule of all was to never go into the forbidden Forest. Though her curiosity always got the best of her and so she went into the forest anyway. Demitri had so much love for the forest and hated being away from it. She spent a lot of time in the forbidden land that the town deemed dangerous. She always spent her free time away from everyone but Alio, whom she's had a crush on since they were 7. The two had been the best of friends since they were young. Demitri loved Alio's bright eyes and blonde hair. She had felt so much joy whenever she was with her life long friend. Alio on the other hand was absolutely clueless that his best friend crushed on him so much. He always knew he loved Demi but in a strict friendship way of love.
“I know how excited you are about the Council Alio, but we still have to get through this year” Demitri responded to her secret crush, rolling her eyes at her hatred for the council, and pulling out her blue notebook for her first class of the year. She was wearing a dark t- shirt hoping to go to the forbidden Forest after school and a pair of ripped blue jeans.
“Well trust me I've had all A’s all through highschool and to be honest-” Alio argued, but was stopped dead in his sentence when their first teacher walked in. He took a seat.
“Hello class, I am Mrs. Blanchard and you can call me Mrs. Blanchard. I will not accept anything else. I do not tolerate phones in this class either so chop chop put them away” she turned and looked at the class. She was wearing a white button up top with a green leaf pattern, black pants, and black flats. Her hair was put up messily with a clip.
“Okay I will now take attendance class” she said sitting at her rolling chair in front of her very cluttered desk.
“Alio Ambrose?” She asked.
“Here” he responded, raising his hand with a smile as she continued down the list.
“Krimson Cortes”?”
“Present!” The girl in the front of the class said with a perky smile as she looked around the room.
Mrs. Blanchard continued down the list as Demitri was staring at Alio not paying attention to her at all. Ever since second grade little Demitri knew one day they'd be together forever. Every time Demitri would zone out at her best friend she found herself writing him a letter. A letter she would never give him. By this time she had over hundreds of letters written over the years. She would always go into the forbidden Forest, her safe spot, lean up against her favorite tree and write till the sun was about to set and when Demitri was done with the letter she would sneak home to her adoptive parents and have a lovely dinner awaiting her arrival. After enjoying the dinner with her parents she would take the letter out of her bag and put it in the box she had kept away in a secret spot she built in her closet.
“Demitri Zara?” There was silence. “Demitri Zara?” More silence. “Ms. Zara!?” Mrs. Blanchard said clapping her hands together.
“Oh yes sorry, I go by Demi please she said lowering her voice nearly to a whisper.
“What was that ma'am?” Her teacher responded annoyed at her lack of attention.
“It's Demi Mrs.” She responded.
“Mrs. Blanchard, but alright I'll make a note” she said before starting the class.
Demi zoned out once more as she hated confrontation and thought about her parents. Her mom's name was Verna and her dad was Vinny. When Demitri was a young girl she knew she was different from her parents but never knew why till her parents were ready to tell her the full truth. So, at her 14th birthday party, she was adopted by her parents, Verna and Vinny.
Demitri was told her birth mom Dolly had twins and chose to give one up because she could not handle two on her own. Well that was the story her parents went with and from there she was given the nickname Demi and she loved it. Her parents said the name fit her better. It fit her long hair, curious attitude about life and Demitri connected to her nickname Demi more than she did Demitri.
After Demi was told she was adopted and knew what she thought was the full story, Verna and Vinny decided to try for another kid so that Demi could have a younger sibling and not feel so alone. Verna and Vinny tried for months before she ended up pregnant with a little boy whom she and Vinny named Dan. Other than Alio, Dan was Demi's whole world and by this time Dan was three years of age and Demitri was about to turn 18.
Still zoned out as Mrs. Blanchard was talking when the bell rang and Demi finally snapped out of it once more, realizing she had missed an entire class staring at Alio. All that was flowing through Demi's clustered brain was
‘oh my gosh I hope he didn't notice'
But instead she whispered, “Oh my, no way I missed the whole class, how could I be so reckless”
“What was that Demi?” Alio said, looking at her while she rushed to pack her bag up and stuff her notebook inside.
“Oh what? Hm? Nothing, nevermind.” she responded quickly, rushing out of the classroom.
Demi could not stop worrying if Alio caught her staring but he never really did, he was always too focused on the assignments in class. Alio was 100% a rule follower and focused most of his life on school so he could pass the big test at the end of the year and finally join the council.
“Make sure you do the homework Demi” Alio said as the two walked out of the classroom.
“Oh crap. There's homework?” Demi looked at the ground in disappointment.
“Yeah, I'll send it to you” Alio chuckled to himself, already sure that she had zoned out. It was normal for Demi to zone out when they had class together but he never connected the dots.
The two went their separate ways and continued to their next classes. Alio was right down the hall from Demi but of course she was still upset that they didn't have class. Demi absolutely loved the time they got to spend together at school. Even when she was zoned out.
Demi went to her next class alone. It smelled of chemicals and was the only class she didn't have with Alio. Science. She sat down at a light brown table scattered with science supplies of all kinds including, test tubes, clear glass bottles, weird colored liquids, and scales.
Demi was looking around the room soaking in that for the first time since she started high school her and Alio did not have a class together when the door to the classroom swung open and a male student she had never seen before walked in. His dark hair and bright devious eyes intrigued Demi. She stared at him as he sat in the stool right next to her. He looked into her widened eyes that he didn't know were filled with interest about this new found boy.
“I'm Nitro” he said as he looked her up and down full of interest.
“Demitri, well Demi. Call me Demi” she responded while she felt her heart race throughout her entire body.
“Alright Demitri, Demi” he winked “you don't mind if I sit with you do you?” She was in shock at his daring and exciting look.
“Sure please do stay, I mean you're already seated” she stuttered and chuckled to herself.
“Will do” he responded pulling out a container of cookies and offered her one, "Don't take one if you've never done edibles before, they're pretty strong"
“Yeah I've definitely done them before” Demi quickly responded and took a cookie from the container. She was trying to act cool by taking the dark cookie and she had in fact never done any type of drug.
Before she bit into the cookie Nitro grabbed her hand and led the cookie to her mouth. When the chocolate goodness touched her lip she noticed something even more intriguing about him. A tattoo. She saw the start of a tattoo on his wrist. Demitri had never met a teenager with a tattoo before and she was mind blown at this new hot boy with light skin, dark hair, and bright blue gray eyes, that made her heart race like she's never felt before. She then bit into the freshly baked cookie and chewed. She tasted Carmel and chocolate of all different kinds.
“Did you make these yourself?” She looked at Nitro who had already hidden the cookie container in his bag.
“I did. Aren't they just delicious?” He asked the beautiful girl sitting next to him.
“They truly are” she responded taking another bite.
“Well hurry and finish it the teacher is about to be here” he said staring at the door handle.
Demi then shoved the rest of the cookie in her mouth and ate it all up. The teacher then walked in and class began. Throughout the class Demi couldn't help but laugh and giggle to herself and Nitro, who also seemed to be enjoying himself. Nitro then looked at Demi.
“I think you're very beautiful Demi” he said in a low voice so no one could hear him.
“Oh thank you Nitro. No one's ever said that before” she responded and then looked down at her thigh which had the same tattooed wrist she saw earlier gently placed on it. Nitro slowly moved his hand higher up her thigh.
“Is this okay?” He whispered
“More than okay” Demi responded, biting her lip slowly.
Nitro moved closer to her seat and whispered in her ear when the teacher wasn't looking “Do you like it when I do this?” He said as he started touching her in places no one ever had before. Biting her lip to keep calm she grabbed his hand.
“I have to go to the bathroom,” she said in a hurried voice. “Mr, uhm, can I, uh, use the restroom please” she asked as she realized she needed to escape.
“Yes you may” their teacher responded “hurry up please”
She then got up and walked to the door before turning back and looking at Nitro. He had a longing look on his face. Almost like he felt bad, but all Demi could think of was how hot he was.
“Demi are you going to the bathroom or not?” The teacher asked before walking over to the door.
“Oh yeah I'm, uhm, definitely going” Demi said as she quickly left the room nearly stumbling out the door at this new found feeling she had coursing through her veins. The hallway of the school was spinning around her as her eyes twitched and hung low. She opened the door to the bathroom and went into the closest stall to the door. She locked the stall door and took out her phone. Demi's mind racing and heart leaping out of her chest, she decided to text Alio.
Demi: Alio I need help
Alio: Demi? Are you okay? You're not supposed to be texting in that class.
Demi: shhhh I'm in the bathroom. I think I need to go home
Alio: Demi what's going on?
Demi: I just need to go right now. But I need you not to tell anyone.
Demi: Alio?
Demi: I need you to take me home
Demi: Alio please answer
Demi: okay I'm going back to class
Demi then stood up from the toilet, unlocked the blue stall door, and slowly made her way out of the girls restroom. She then stumbled through the hall past her classroom.
Demi looked in the room to another class down the hall and waved for Alio to come out with a big smile on her face.
"Miss, may I use the restroom please, it's an emergency" Alio said from behind the closed classroom door.
"Be quick" his teacher responded shaking her head.
Alio walked out of the class and whispered to Demi who was now sliding down the wall and her eyes were rolling to the back of her head.
"Demi what the hell is going on?"
"Alio shhh my head hurts" Demi giggled at each word she said as she continued sliding down the wall till she was sitting on the cold tiled floor.
"Come on Demi get up." Alio said going to help her up before she giggled and completely fell to the floor nearly lifeless. Her face was pale and her eyes kept rolling to the back of her head.
"Oh Demi what has gotten into you. This isn't like you at all, and is clearly more than just a headache" he mumbled under his breath. He then scooped Demi's lifeless body up in his warm and loving arms and took her to the nurse.
"I found her like this outside the bathroom" he said, completely lying to the nurses when they opened the door to avoid any troubles that may come their way.
"Thank you for bringing her here, well call her parents" the nurse with long dark hair said and she wrote on a sheet of paper attached to a clip board she was holding in her left hand. The nurse dismissed Alio back to class and kept an eye on Demi’s lifeless body till her parents got to the school.
"Hi hello, were here to pick up Demitri" Her mother said with a panicked voice.
"She is right over there ma'am" the same nurse said giving her a sign out sheet. Dimitri's dad carried her to the red sparkly car and buckled her in slowly trying not to burn her with the seatbelt that the sun was shining right down upon. He then sat in the driver's seat and awaited his beautiful wife's return. When Verna got in the car the three drove back to their house in silence.
Their house was surrounded by flowers of all kinds, a giant tree in their backyard and Alio lived right next door. They carried Demi's limp body into their sweet country home, laid her on her bed, and tucked her in.
"What are we going to do?" Demi's mom asked Her father.
"I'm not sure Verna, we don't even know what happened" Vinny responded sitting on the couch.
"I hope she's okay" Verna said laying on her husband's lap.
"Me too mi amor. Me too" he played with his wife's hair thinking of all the possibilities. The two sat on the couch watching the television for hours trying to take their minds off their ill daughter.
Then there was a knock on the door.
"Oh Alio hi!" Vinny said with welcoming arms to Demi's secret crush as he opened the door.
"Can I come in? School just ended. I wanted to drop off some work for Demi and make sure she's okay" he said, looking at the ground in remorse still unsure what exactly happened.
"We think she's okay and yes please do come in" Vinny responded "just please keep it down she's asleep and so is her mom"
"Will do" Alio said in a whisper. “Also I picked up Dan from preschool, he's over at my house with my little sister. I didn't want him to see Demi like this.” he added. Then, Demi's dad invited Alio in to sit at their kitchen table and talk as he closed the front door and locked it behind him.
"So Alio I have to ask" there was a brief pause "do you know what really happened?" Vinny asked as he was still dumbfounded on what really took place.
"I'm not completely sure sir. I found her laying on the floor near the bathroom" he said as the two heard a floor board creek from behind them.
Nearly in unison they turned the direction the sound came from.
"Demi hi, you're awake!”
