James’ POV
After meeting Sebastian’s family, I felt mixed emotions about meeting his entire pack. Everyone was going to immediately celebrate and welcome me as their Luna. But it would take time to explain and make them understand the unique situation we were in. Would we do that tonight? Surely Sebastian would give me a heads up. Although how could he know how to handle this? We were in uncharted territory.
Once we explained everything to Sebastian’s parents, things started looking up. I could tell his father was absolutely smitten with me, and his mother even got Lyanna to come around and hear us out. She even apologized for her outburst, although I told her there was no need. I understood she was only being protective of her brother, and that if it were Inez in this situation their mate would have dealt with far worse. I joked that when we found out my Beta was mated to Irina, Wren got extra special attention from me and was my sparring partner for a month, with no escape.
We all laughed about that. They seemed to have a million questions for me, ranging from “what was it like growing up and training to be the first female Alpha” to what I liked to do in my free time.
After a few hours of getting to know his family, we all went our separate ways to get ready for the bonfire and allow me to get settled. Sebastian walked me up to my room and hovered at my door.
“So, I’ll see you in two hours for the bonfire?” He asked quietly, inching closer to me, pinning me to the closed door behind me.
My breathing hitched as his body pressed closer to mine. His scent engulfed me and made my brain fuzzy.
“Absolutely” I whispered, not trusting to speak any louder, fearing my voice would be thick with my desire.
Sebastian could tell the effect he had on me, the tension between us hanging heavy in the air. He skimmed his fingertips up my arm, across my collarbone, bringing his hand to cup the back of my neck. A smirk played at his lips while his eyes darkened with desire.
“Unless you want to find something to fill that time, together?” He murmured, leaning in to kiss my jaw.
It felt like my knees were jelly as his smooth lips skimmed along my jaw. My hands gripped his shirt as desire burned through every cell in my body.
“Sebastian…” I moaned as his lips trailed down my neck and he inhaled my scent. He groaned and pressed himself closer to me.
He pulled away quickly and looked into my eyes, desire behind his dark brown eyes; their edges glimmering with gold.
“It’s taking all the strength I have not to take you into that bedroom and have my way with you” he said through gritted teeth.
What is stopping you? Ember purred in my mind.
Down girl, I responded through my lust filled haze. What was stopping us?
“James, I want you. But I won’t do anything until you say you’re ready. I know what accepting our bond means and while I’m ready, I know it may take you time” he murmured, brushing a lock of hair from my face.
He touched his forehead to mine and closed his eyes, cradling my cheek in his large palm.
“I’ll see you in two hours, my mate” he mumbled, and then turned towards the staircase.
It took a moment for me to regain control of my body, my head swimming. I opened the door to my room and walked across to the bed. I flopped across it, sinking into the fluffy duvet.
I stared up at the ceiling and then looked over at the clock. Two hours and then I meet the entire Opal Moon Pack by their Alpha’s side. No biggie.
I push myself off the bed and make my way into the bathroom. Even for a guest room, the bathroom was large. Dual sinks, a soaking tub, and a walk in shower with a rainfall head coming from the ceiling.
I strip down and pad over to the shower. I turn the water on to scalding hot and hop in, letting the water rush over me. I shampoo and condition my hair and scrub my body down with my rose scented soap. I take out my razor and shave my legs, then rinse the conditioner out of my hair. After letting the water wash over me for a few more blissful moments, I turn the water off and wrap my body in one of the soft white towels.
I then proceed to lather my body in my rose-scented lotion, and dry my hair. I take out my curling iron and curl my hair loosely, then proceed to put on some light makeup.
Then it was time for me to get dressed. I dumped out all my clothes and stared blankly at the pile in front of me. After trying on three or four outfits, I settled for my dark wash jeans, a cream colored chunky sweater, and my chunky platform tennis shoes. I looked in the mirror and a wave of anxiety washed over. What would Sebastian think?
I mind-linked Irina to come to my room. I was having a really, really hard time figuring out what to wear. I usually didn’t stress about what I wore, but with Sebastian involved I was suddenly self-conscious. I wanted to impress him, his pack, the pack elders - everyone that would be there tonight. I barely scraped by with his family.
I sighed, blowing air out with my lips pursed. This was NOT like me at all.
Irina knocked on my door softly and came right on in. She knew I was expecting her. Before I could even ask about my outfit, she crinkled her nose and twitched it.
“JJ, that is not hot enough for a bonfire with your mate” she said, her lips curling upwards.
“Well, I wasn’t going for ‘hot’….necessarily” I said, rolling my eyes “I just want to make a good impression. You know how important a first impression is” I stated, looking her in the eyes.
“You’re right. Okay, well, ditch the tennis shoes and grab your chocolate leather booties. Yup, those. And grab your lighter jeans instead of those with that sweater. And tie your hair up and put in your gold hoops” she directed.
I scurried around the room, following her orders as if she were the Alpha. When she stopped, I looked in the mirror and smiled. The cropped cream sweater I was wearing initially looked amazing with the gold hoops and light wash jeans she had picked out. My dark brown boots and hair tied away from my face allowed me to look a bit more laid back, perfect for a bonfire.
“JJ, you look amazing. Sebastian won’t be able to resist” she gushed “but now, it’s time for me to finish getting ready and look amazing for my man. Plus, I need to make a good impression as the Beta Female of this soon to be merged pack” she added, giving me a wink and a peck on the cheek.
Once she left, the excitement deflated out of me, and I was left with a sense of dread. This bonfire represented so much more than just me meeting my mates’ pack. My mate was Alpha of this pack. They needed to accept me as their Alpha too. AND not only that, they had to accept that I was going to be Alpha of another pack and would stay that way if I were mated to Sebastian. Their pack would forever be tied to the Blood Moon Pack. This was way more than just their Alpha finding a Luna. I could only hope that they would be as supportive as I knew mine would be.
There was a soft knock on my door and Sebastian poked his head into the room.
“Hey, I was heading down and was wondering if you were, um, ready or not” he said, slightly blushing. It was cute that he seemed to be nervous too. I giggled and walked towards the door.
“Sure thing. Just let me go check on the others and we can all head down” I said cheerfully.
I passed Sebastian on my way out of the room and waltzed down the hall to Wren and Irina’s room, then Mason’s. They came out quickly, and soon all five of us were heading to the main floor and out to the back lawn.
I gasped as I walked out and saw the back part of the Opal Moon Estate. String lights were dancing above us across the large back patio. The patio led to an enormous pool, and beyond that, a beautiful emerald green lawn. In the distance, I could see an enormous weeping willow tree near the edge of a crystal-clear pond. As the sun was setting, the rays glittered off the pond. It was a beautiful sight. For a moment I caught myself daydreaming about what it would be like to live here. I quickly shook the thought from my mind.
As I looked around, the Opal Moon Pack was bustling, enjoying barbecued food and booze. Young pups were running around the lawn, and some were swimming in the pool. The party was already in full swing and it had just begun.
I looked at Irina, and her eyes were dancing. She, like me, loved a good party. She grabbed Wren’s hand and went straight for the food. I laughed as I watched her and Wren make their way through the crowd.
I turned and smiled at Mason, who was tensely looking around. He was more on edge than normal. I reached out and tried to rest my hand on his shoulder, but he was way too focused on looking for something to acknowledge me. It was then that he suddenly seemed to find what he was looking for. He jerked away from my grip and took off through the crowd. I stood there, stunned, as I followed his movements while he walked up to a beautiful she-wolf.
