Until Then

James’ POV

Sebastian looked at me, his dark eyes piercing my soul, for what felt like an eternity. He pursed his lips in thought. My foot twitched anxiously.

“Alright” he said, letting his hand fall to the table. He reached for his coffee and took a sip. Then he set the cup down and brought his right hand out to me.

“I accept,” he said, as I brought my hand into his to shake. He pulled my hand closer to his body. His face inched closer to mine, his breath fanning my face. His delicious scent engulfed me and my heart started to hammer in my chest. His lips brushed the air just millimeters from my skin as he brought his lips to my ear.

“ONLY after you take over your pack as Alpha” he stated, pulling back and looking into me eyes, his gaze never leaving mine “Until then, you come with me to my pack. So, we can get to know each other better” He smirked.

My hand stopped shaking his. I looked at him, shock painting my face for only a second before I quickly composed myself.

“Is that a problem?” He looked at me, smirking.

I cleared my throat, rolled my shoulders, and looked at him.

“No. But Wren, Mason, and Irina will be coming with me”

His face paled slightly at the mention of Mason’s name. I knew he didn’t like Mason, and I knew he REALLY wouldn’t like Mason if he learned about our history. Before he could protest, I interrupted.

“They are my Beta and Gamma. I want them there with me so that they can get to know you, your Beta, and your Gamma since they’ll be working together someday. And my sister Irina will be coming too, as my Beta female”

I knew that I couldn’t get through this without my team. Wren could help me keep a level head, Mason knew me better than anyone, and Irina was my sister. Plus, she knew all about the ritual. I needed them.

“Alright then. Will you need to return to your pack to get your things?”

“No. I’ll just need to speak with my father and someone from the pack can bring us our things”

“Well then, let’s do this” he smirked and stood up. As I rose from my seat he closed the space between us. I felt like I was being smothered in his delicious scent. He brought his hand to brush my cheek and looked deep into my eyes. His eyes flashed gold and a deep voice rumbled out.

“I can’t wait to get to know you better, my sweet mate. I’m Alaric, Sebastian’s wolf”

As Alaric spoke, my toes curled at how sensual his deep voice sounded and at the way he raked his eyes up and down my body.

“Hello Alaric, I’m James” I said, feeling Ember stir and push for control.

Let me speak to him, please!!

My eyes began to glow gold and Ember began to speak

“I’m Ember, James’ wolf. I’m sure we’ll get to know each other very well soon” she purred, eyeing Sebastian seductively.

She tucked my lower lip between my teeth and Alaric let out a deep growl. He traced his thumb along my lower lip, freeing it from my teeth. His finger lingered on my lips and I could feel the heat beginning to pool between my thighs and I knew I needed to rein her in. Ember closed my lips around his thumb and let her tongue slowly lick his finger. Sebastian’s breathing became shallow, but he shook his head and his eyes returned to their honey brown color.

My eyes stopped glowing soon after Sebastian’s.

“Alaric is very happy he finally got to meet his mate and find out the name of your wolf. He says Ember is the perfect name.”

“Ember is happy as well. She hasn’t been able to stop talking about you since we first smelled you” I admitted.

Sebastian’s eyes lit up and he flashed a devastating smile at me. This man was going to be the end of me.

“We’re going to his pack??” Mason exclaimed after I delivered the news to him, Wren, my sister, and our fathers as we sat in my Father’s hotel room sitting area.

“Until I take over as Alpha, he’s requested that I come with him to his pack to get to know him better, and his pack. I’ve asked that Wren, Mason, and Irina join me” I explained, raising my eyebrows at my father, awaiting his final decision.

My father looked at his Beta and Gamma, who both nodded their heads. We had their blessing.

“Alright James, I feel comfortable letting you go if this is what you want. His request is logical, as he’s an Alpha, and you’re not, not yet” he said with a wink “You’ve finished your Alpha training, and I’ll check in on you. Plus Irina will be there. Wren and Mason, you look after your Alpha…. Look after my daughter” my father said, standing and coming to shake my hand and give me a kiss on the cheek.

“Thank you Alpha” I said, a feeling of excitement bubbling in my stomach.

I looked to Wren, Mason, and Irina. Irina stood and came to hug me.

“I’ll call Inez and have her send us everything we’ll need!” she exclaimed, giving me a wink. She fluttered out of the room, and Wren followed pulling Mason along with him. The room cleared, leaving just Cedric and me.

Mason’s father shifted uncomfortably, then he looked up at me.

“James, I’m happy for you that you’ve found your mate. I truly am. I just….as a father…... I want you to be careful with Mason. I saw how much he loved you, and I know, on some level, that he loves you still. He will never try to come between you and your mate; I know that, you know that. And I pray to the Goddess he finds his mate soon. But seeing you with your mate can’t be easy for him” he said, resting a hand on my shoulder.

I reached my hand up and grabbed his large one in mine. We stood there for a moment, and then I took a deep breath.

“Gamma, you know I would never want to hurt Mason. I loved him. In a way I will always love him” I said, tears pricking at my eyes.

“I know that James. Just…. look out for him. This won’t be easy on him until he finds his mate…. I sometimes can’t believe there’s someone out there who will love Mace more than you. But there is. Just like this Alpha Sebastian will love you more than Mason ever could” Cedric said slowly, disbelief clear in his voice. He cleared his throat and looked into my eyes “And if this Alpha doesn’t, kick his ass” Cedric winked at me. I couldn’t help but laugh.

He left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how Mason was feeling with all of this. After we broke up, we just assumed that neither one of us would find our mates, especially me. I guess I never thought about what would happen if either of us found our mates, let alone if I found mine. I whispered to myself a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess.

‘Please let Mason find his mate so he can be free of any pain caused by this’

I did not want whatever would happen between Sebastian and me to hurt Mason. Or vice versa. Despite my guarded heart, I had already begun to feel deep feelings for Alpha Sebastian.
