Sebastian’s POV
The meeting of the Alpha’s Circle came to a close, and then it was time for Victor, Jay and I to make our way back to the Opal Moon Pack. But on the trip back, we had unexpected guests: My mate, her Beta, Beta female, and Gamma. I still couldn’t believe that I had found her. It was even harder to believe she was to be an Alpha and not just my Luna. There were going to be many questions from my family and the pack once they found out. In the back of my mind I worried about how to explain this to my ferocious mother and sister. The two of them were identical in every way, causing double the headache for my father, me, and my brother.
On the drive home, I was swamped with making phone calls to prepare for our guests. I texted my sister Lyanna to help prepare the guest rooms. She naturally had a million questions for me, which is why I texted my brother Kason to keep her busy so she wouldn’t blow up my phone with questions. He knew I would explain when we arrived and that everything was fine. I had found my mate and was bringing her home, that’s all they needed to know for now. Kason replied he was on it and not to worry about a thing. Even though he’s 5 years younger than me, sometimes he felt like the big brother.
I sent my father a text that important guests were coming for a long visit and to let Mother do her thing to prepare. No doubt Mother was already trying to plan a Luna Ceremony for us. But she would make everything perfect, and I wanted everything perfect when the Blood Moon Pack members arrived. Our pack was nice, but I knew that the Blood Moon Pack was likely far nicer. They were an ancient and prestigious pack. I certainly wanted to impress James, but I was prideful and wanted to impress the rest of her pack members too.
As we made our way into the pack territory my chest swelled with pride as I saw some of our border patrol running through the open fields. They ran in a tight formation and looked sharp. As they spotted our car, the leader came to a halt and threw his head back in a howl. A howl to let the pack know their Alpha was home.
Their Luna is home too Alaric stirred in my mind.
Yes, she’s home I replied, smiling and looking in the mirror to see her pack cars trailing behind us.
As we entered deeper, we saw more and more pack members going about their daily lives. We passed through the pack village and made our way to the pack mansion, where the leaders of the Opal Moon Pack lived.
The pack mansion was a traditional looking mansion, with a wraparound porch, supported by grand columns and dotted with porch swings and chairs. As our cars pulled through the circular driveway, I hopped out and made my way to James’ car.
Before I could open the door for her, she was already gliding out of the sleek black vehicle. She looked at me with a slight smirk on her lips. I could tell then and there that this woman did not need a chivalrous gentleman to come and save the day for her, and she would not be treated like a doll.
“Welcome, James Laurent and the rest of Blood Moon Pack, to the Opal Moon Estate” I said, gesturing to the charming mansion before them.
James looked up at the architecture, then at me, smiling sweetly. Irina had climbed out behind her and smiled as she looked around. She reached for Wren’s hand and dragged him behind her and James. Mason had a slightly sour expression as he followed behind.
I waved for their luggage to be brought in behind them and that’s when James popped up by my side, unexpectedly.
“Oh s**t, I forgot about the luggage” she said, reaching for her bags.
“We can take care of your luggage ma’am” Steven, one of the Omegas, objected.
“Oh no, don’t you worry about it” James quipped, heaving her bag onto her shoulder and grabbing her rolling suitcase “Wren, Mason, come on” she ordered.
I watched as Wren, Irina, and Mason all grabbed their bags from the cars before the Omegas could get to them. My people looked stunned as the guests unloaded their luggage and made their way inside.
“Just show us where to take these” she looked back at Steven, offering a dazzling smile.
Steven was young, and he blushed as he took off up the stairs to get ahead of the group to show them to their rooms.
I was sort of in shock as I watched the scene unfold. James was one independent woman.
As I watched them make their way inside, I grabbed my things out of the trunk and followed behind the group.
Inside the front door of the mansion was a grand entrance foyer. There was a beautiful carpeted staircase that James and her pack were already climbing to the 2nd floor. I took the stairs two at a time to catch up. Steven showed Mason, Wren and Irina to rooms on the 2nd floor, the guest wing of the mansion, but he began to lead James up to the 4th floor, the top floor, when she stopped him.
“Excuse me, Steven? Am I not staying on the guest floor?” she asked gently.
“Um, er, I, um, I thought since you, er, were Alpha Sebastian’s, ehm, mate….” He sputtered.
“That I would stay with him?” she asked, raising her eyebrows and c*****g her head. A smirk played at her lips as her eyes cut over to me.
Steven began to sweat as he opened his mouth and no sound came out.
“That’s alright Steven. James may stay on this floor if she so chooses. Give her the main guest suite” I said, nodding at James and giving Steven a reassuring smile.
James turned to me and smiled softly. Although it stung that she didn’t want to stay in my room, I could somewhat understand. We had only just met and given our circumstances, I figured she needed a space that was her own.
Before everyone disappeared to get settled in their own rooms, I cleared my throat.
“We are having a barbeque and bonfire celebration tonight at 6:00. We would love it if you all came as our honored guests. It’s just one of our usual fall traditions, but it’s a lot of fun” I said, my eyes earnestly locking with James.
She studied me carefully and nodded her head.
“Alright. We will be there” she said, smiling at me and pivoting on her heels to her room.
I hesitated before following her to her room and lingered in the doorway as she took everything in. After she set her things down and looked around the room, her sparkling brown eyes met mine and she smiled.
“This is beautiful” she exclaimed, gesturing to the soft whites linens and warm wood furniture around her.
“I’m glad you like it, my mother decorated this whole house. You can change anything you’d like though as the next Luna”
Her face twitched into a grimace, but she quickly masked it with a soft smile “Who would want to? It’s all so beautiful!” She said, taking a few steps towards me with her arms wrapped around her torso.
“My mother will love to hear that. Speaking of which, I, um, think my time is up keeping them at bay before they pounce on you. As you can imagine my family has been dying to meet you”
Her eyes flashed with an emotion I couldn’t name. Was it fear? Nerves?
“Are they aware of our situation?” She asked, a hint of hesitation in her voice.
“No. I figured that news would be better to explain in person” I said, raking my hand through my hair.
“I see” she nodded, twitching her nose as she looked deep in thought “well, let’s get this over with”
I nodded my head and reached my hand out for hers on instinct. She looked down at it for a second as if it were suddenly a snake, and then gingerly put her small hand in mine. Her hand was surprisingly soft and delicate, and the sparks that erupted from the contact made my heart thump frantically in my chest.
I looked at our entwined hands for a moment before leading her out of the room and down to the 1st floor. We made our way across the foyer and through a long hallway towards my office. I knew my family was waiting there to meet her.
As we walked through the pack house and passed the dining area, the library, recreational rooms, I could feel more and more eyes on us as we passed, and the hum of whispers grew louder and louder.
“Alpha Sebastian has found his mate?”
“Who is she?”
“Why else would he be walking hand in hand with a strange she-wolf?”
“Is this our new Luna?”
“Did he grow tired waiting for his mate?”
“I heard Lyanna and Luna Victoria say that the Alpha finally found her! Our new Luna!”
“What beautiful pups they will have!”
As the whispers swirled around us I could feel James tensing up. I tried stroking her hand with my thumb, but she immediately slid her hand from mine and tucked her hair behind her ear and kept walking.
My heart lurched at the sudden change in her body language, but I kept us moving along to the doors of my office.
I reached for the heavy brass handles on the thick paneled doors and opened them for us.
My mother was perched on the arm of one of the leather sofas in the middle of the room, my father beside her. My brother and sister were sitting on the identical sofa across from them, Kason’s feet lounging lazily on the arm of the chair. Mother had set out an enormous spread of snacks on the coffee table in the middle: fruits, cheeses, crackers, and meats. There was a teapot with cups and saucers, and cans of sparkling water.
Of course Mother would go all out, I thought to myself.
As my family all turned to look at us standing at the door, I wasn’t sure I had prepared James for what would maybe happen next.
Lyanna squealed and ran straight past me and tackled James. Taken aback James stood with her arms pinned at her side, taking in the sight of my mother swooping in to touch her cheek.
“Welcome my dear. Welcome Luna” my mother cooed with a smile.
“I already know you’re going to be an amazing Luna” Lyanna gushed and pulled back to look at James.
It was my father who walked forward with a perplexed look on his face.
“Hello my dear. Welcome to Opal Moon, you must forgive my girls. They’re just so excited our Bash found you” he said, reaching out his hand for James to shake.
“I must ask, you look very familiar and your aura reminds me of someone. My son said you are from Blood Moon? Who is your family there?” My father asked.
I took a deep breath as I waited for James to answer. Now was the time.
James smiled sweetly at my father and shook his hand.
“Hello Alpha Lucius. My name is James Brooks Laurent, I am the daughter of Alpha Easton Laurent” she looked at me for a moment, pausing to gauge my reaction. I shook my head yes, bracing for the million questions that were about to ensue.
“I am also the next Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack”
