She Doesn’t Want To Be My Mate

1114 Words
Sebastian’s POV I begrudgingly pressed the elevator button and headed back down to the lobby. I wanted nothing more than to follow her to her room. It didn’t help that her Gamma was the one who did, or that the elevator smelled like her. My veins burned with jealousy at the thought of him being alone with her, even in a hotel hallway. Already I was jealous of any man being around this beautiful creature that was my mate. The elevator door opened to the lobby and I made my way out. Jay and Victor were patiently waiting at the edge of the bar, their eyes watching the lobby for me. They spotted me and waved to close their tab. I walked over to them. “So, do you want to tell us what the hell is happening?” Jay asked with a slight smirk on his face. “Oh, shut up, you know what’s happening” I muttered under my breath. Both Jay and Victor laughed. “Man, you pinned a girl down and practically groped her in front of her father. And that father is like, the most powerful Alpha in the world” Victor laughed. I grumbled as they laughed at the situation. This was not how I ever pictured finding my mate. I walked away and they followed, making our way outside to the cabana area. I stopped walking but didn’t turn to face them. “She doesn’t want to be my mate” I stated, finally giving into the despair that had been eating away at me. My knees shook and threatened to give in. As I said the words it felt like a hole was punched through my chest. I could feel my body caving in under the weight of what all she had said. “s**t bro, I’m so sorry. How are you holding up?” Jay said, clapping his hand on my shoulder, halfway holding me upright. “She didn’t reject me. She said, and I quote: ‘I don’t need a mate, Alpha Sebastian. I …. I can’t do this. I cannot reject you, but I cannot accept you’ What the f**k does that even mean?” I said, raking my hands through my hair. “She didn’t reject you bro! There’s still a chance you can win her over!!” Jay said, punching his fist in the air. “I just don’t understand why she doesn’t want to be my mate and Luna. Her whole life she has been focused on being Alpha, and I get it. But you know the Lunas of Opal Moon have always been treated as equals to the Alpha. Look at my mom and how she was treated as Luna. I just don’t understand what I can do to show her she will be my equal…. that being with me isn’t settling for less” I groaned. “I mean, what would you say if finding your mate meant giving up being our Alpha? That’s kind of what you’re asking her to do by assuming her to be your Luna” Vic said quietly. I paused, turning to look at my friends. Jay and Victor looked back at me helplessly. They knew the painful truth that I did: no man in the history of our kind has ever been mated to a female Alpha. ESPECIALLY a male Alpha mated to a female Alpha. ———— James’ POV I could hardly sleep. My mind raced all night long and I kept replaying our make-out session in the elevator over and over again in my head. I could still feel his lips on mine, and his hands roaming my body. It felt like fire was coursing through my veins. Tears spilled from my eyes. Eventually, I fell asleep out of sheer exhaustion. My alarm woke me up promptly at 5:00 a.m. I groaned and got up, braided my hair, and threw on my workout clothes. I laced up my running shoes and headed down to the lobby and out the door. I needed a run to clear my mind, even if it had to be a human run. When I returned from my run, my father was waiting outside my door. He smiled when he saw me. “I was wondering if the quiet I heard on the other side of the door was because you had disappeared for your usual run, or something else” he raised his eyebrows and winked at me. I felt sick to my stomach. My father just insinuated that he thought Alpha Sebastian and I spent the night together. AND he’s okay with it given the smile on his face. “I didn’t claim him. I can’t. I can’t lose everything I’ve worked so hard for and what we’ve dreamed of” I squeaked, pushing past him into my room. He followed behind me. “My darling girl, he is your mate. You can’t reject him. It will weaken you and him both and break your heart again. I can’t watch my little girl, future Alpha or not, go through that kind of pain again” my father said, a hint of pleading in his tone. I flinched as my father referenced the aftermath of my break-up with Mason. Although he would never admit it, he was overjoyed at the prospect of his daughter and best friend’s son uniting to lead the pack. But he never once showed his disappointment when Mason and I went to him and told him we accepted the truth that we weren’t mates. “Daddy, if I accept him, I become his Luna. I will lose this pack. I lose my birthright” Tears threatened to spill from my eyes. I blinked them away before they could fall. “No, you won’t. I’ve been preparing for the day you found your mate for a few years, ever since….” He awkwardly paused, measuring my expression. He inhaled and began again “Anyway, your sister Irina has been helping me research werewolf laws and ancient traditions. Your sister and I immediately conferred with the elders after you left with Alpha Sebastian last night, since we knew you were for sure mated to an Alpha, and there is indeed a way you and he both can remain Alpha” My breath caught in my chest. Would this be what I wanted, to share a title with my mate? I never thought of this as a possibility. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be mated to another Alpha. “Tell me how” I looked my father in the eyes as he smiled softly and nodded his head.
