Chapter 7

1019 Words
Eve There was an area with a giant boulder and a small cave. I ducked into it, trying to steady my breathing. I had to figure out where I was going to go until I could find my way home. A few hours passed, or at least that’s what it felt like, before I began to fall asleep. I wanted to stay awake, but my body wasn’t allowing it. I heard rustling in some bushes nearby. I waited, holding my breath. A set of piercing blue eyes appeared in the darkness. The massive, dark red wolf snarled and growled ferociously. I choked back a scream. He whimpered, perhaps realizing he had scared me. He shifted. "It's not safe for you to leave like that. You are in heat. You don't know this forest. It didn't take me long to find you. Now imagine if some other wolf, like the one from earlier, had gotten to you first." That was the most I had heard him speak to me. He seemed annoyed. I started to speak. "You made it this far on your own. We might as well continue. We're not far from Majestic Lake now." I followed him out of the cave, impressed with my own instincts. Beta Lionel was waiting. He rubbed the back of his neck, staring out into the darkness. "Rogues." I frowned. Alpha crouched into a fighting stance, glancing frantically from side to side. Beta Lionel shielded me with his body. "Eve, when I tell you to run, go East." "Where is East?" I whispered. Fear started building in my body. Alpha looked at me for a second, concern overtaking his handsome face. He shook his head as Beta Lionel discreetly motioned toward the direction he wanted me to go. A foul smell was growing. Yellowish eyes became visible through the darkness. There had to be at least five wolves coming toward us. Beta Lionel covered me completely. Alpha shifted. The wolves ran toward him. "Run!" Beta Lionel shouted before shifting into his wolf. All I heard were the sounds of growling and fighting. I ran as fast as I could, but barely made it three feet. I felt a sharp pain in my right side. The warmth of the liquid spilling from my body as I held my hand over a wound sustained by a tall, scrawny man holding a knife made me hyperventilate. I was about to die. I started to lose consciousness. A loud snapping sound jolted me into alertness. I opened my eyes just as Alpha was spitting the scrawny man's body from his mouth. It was worse than the severed head. I looked at the two pieces of the man's body and vomitted, falling to my knees. I just wanted to lay down. A woman with dark hair was standing beside the lake. She stared at me with pity. “Go now, Eve. Run.” I must be in Heaven now. She shook her head, as if she had heard my thoughts. “I am Selene. The Moon Goddess.” Now I was confused. “Moon Goddess?” “Yes. The Goddess of all werewolves.” “I’m sorry, but why am I here?” “I needed to speak with you.” “About what? Am I dead?” “No, you are not dead. You are in a dream-like state.” “What happened?” She sighed. “You will remember soon. Go.” I sighed, nodding. “When do I get to see my family again?” “Once you are well, you may come and go as you please.” “How do you know me?” She chuckled. “I chose you.” “For?” I was very confused now. “To be a Luna. You would make an exceptional Luna. Your second chance is close.” I furrowed my brows. “Second chance?” “Yes. Your second chance mate.” She smiled warmly. I pursed my lips. “Don’t worry, Eve. This one is special. He’s my son.” She smiled again, proudly this time. “You hooked me up with your son? Why didn’t you do that before?” “I initially had someone else in mind, but I like you a little more.” She winked and continued. “Before I go, I would like to gift you with three things.” “What kind of things?” I had many questions for Selene, but I didn’t know where to begin. This was all weird to me. She knelt down beside me, placing one hand on my shoulder and one on my forehead. I felt a bolt of energy surge through my body. “I have placed upon you the gift of foresight, the gift of balancing the elements, and the gift of telepathy.” My eyes shot open wide. I glanced around, turning in a circle. Selene was gone. I was confused enough, but I was too tired to make any further inquiries. My breathing began to slow and I felt like life was slowly slipping from my grasp. I kept hearing Beta Lionel and Selene's voices telling me to run. I stood, wobbling a bit before balancing myself enough to head East. I stumbled through the dark forest, unsure what my fate would be. It couldn't get worse than this. There was absolutely no way I would be that unlucky. I came across a small clearing with a tiny building of some sort just sitting in the center. "Are you alright, m'am?" I exhaled heavily in response. "My Goddess!" I heard the shock in his voice and lifted my head enough to see the giant man zone out. I groaned, still holding the wound on my side. It hurt like hell. I thought to myself, this is it. I knew I was dying. I felt the man lift me up and cradle me, like a baby. "You're safe now, Eve." I nearly choked upon hearing him refer to me by name. He carried me as I slipped into unconsciousness. Darkness consumed me as the sounds around me ceased.
