Chapter 6

Eve The smell of bacon surrounded me, awaking me from a not so comfortable sleep. Beta Lionel walked in with a tray. There was bacon, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and orange juice. "I figured I could get you up. How are you feeling?" I groaned. "That's pretty normal after a rejection. Trust me, if I had known he was going to do that, I would've warned you." He grimaced and then offered a small smile. "You should at least eat. It might help ease your discomfort." He sat the tray of food down before me and left the room again. I felt drained and empty, like my heart was absent from my chest. It was like someone had come and ripped it out of me. It was painful to be awake. I couldn't explain the feeling, to be honest. I hadn’t properly grieved my friend and here I was, having to make sense of this situation. “Eat up. You’re going to need strength.” I nodded, scarfing down the oatmeal. It had butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon and tasted heavenly. The fruit was eaten up in no time. “Hey, there. Slow down.” Lionel chuckled, watching me devour everything on the tray. “You don’t understand how hungry I am.” I continued pigging out. A sad smile crossed his face. “Tonight is the night.” I nodded, finishing up the last of my breakfast. He turned to leave. “Lionel?” “Yeah?” “Thank you.” “Don’t mention it.” He flashed his million dollar smile and disappeared down the hall. I sat against the headboard, pondering how to explain this experience to my parents. I didn’t even know where to begin. I sighed. After a few minutes of being lost in my thoughts, I exited the room to put away the tray and the dishes. "Just leave them in the sink. An omega is going to come and clean the cottage after you leave." Beta Lionel stepped outside. I sat everything in the sink and went to find the bathroom again. The cottage would benefit from a good, deep cleaning. The dust was unbearable. It looked like it hadn't been touched in years. I shuddered at the thought. An abandoned cabin that belonged to old people; it was some scary movie type stuff. I washed up and followed Beta Lionel outside. I didn't hear him or see him. I pursed my lips. The sounds of birds chirping made me smile to myself. Against my better judgement, I strayed too far from the cottage, admiring the beauty of the forest. The sounds, the scenery, the crispness of the air. A sudden twig snap made me spin around so fast, I lost my balance. "Well, well, well ... What do we have here?" A man I didn't recognize stood over me. He inhaled and a wicked grin spread across his ugly face. "Human girl ... What are you doing?" His eyes darkened. He started to move closer. I tried to stand but he pinned me to the ground. I gasped, unable to speak. "Not so fast, little human!" His sour breath pierced my nostrils and made me gag. He leaned in to kiss me. I turned my head and shut my eyes. "I'm going to have fun with you." He grinned again, his fangs coming out. I started to scream as he ripped underwear off with a single swipe. He pressed himself against me, readying his member to penetrate me against my will. As I thrashed beneath him, a roar shook the ground. He stopped suddenly. As I pushed against him, I caught a glimpse of Alpha Trevor with his claws pressed against the ugly wolf's throat. I stumbled to my feet. My eyes widened at the sight before me. The ugly wolf was shaking. "Alpha, I--" "Quiet!" His deep voice made us both jump. Beta Lionel appeared, confusion written all over his face. Alpha Trevor moved his hand across the ugly wolf's neck, severing his head from his body. It happened so quickly that I didn’t realize it until his head rolled toward my feet. Alpha Trevor stood staring at me, breathing hard. I was too in shock to move. *** “She’s experiencing heat. It’s rare for a human to have such an experience in our way, but possible. Her body is preparing to give the Alpha an heir.” My eyes were bulging out of my head at this point. “The Moon Goddess is attempting to speed up the process, I would assume. Your mate has to provide an heir.” “Why?” Alpha Trevor’s voice was cold and low. “That, I cannot provide an answer for. The Moon Goddess has her plans and we seldom know why until …” “That’s enough. Thank you, Dr. Mitchell.” The tall, grey haired man nodded and left the cottage. Beta Lionel stood with a blank stare, while Alpha Trevor clenched and unclenched his jaw rapidly. He began to pace as his eyes darkened, staring at me. I gulped. “I think you should go back. Obviously, this is making you feel conflicted.” Beta Lionel stood defensively, partially in front of me, but facing Alpha. Alpha Trevor scoffed at Lionel’s advice. “And then what? Pretend she doesn’t exist? I have to get rid of her.” I was screaming internally. “Alpha, I can begin our journey now, but there is no guarantee she will be safe. It would probably be best to keep her here until she is no longer in heat." Lionel glanced at me. Alpha Trevor continued to pace, never taking his eyes off of me. “No.” “Alpha—“ “I said no!” His roar shook the cottage. “I rejected her! This shouldn’t be happening!” "Alpha--" "Did you accept my rejection?" He moved so quickly, Beta Lionel didn't have time to stop him. He breathed heavily into my face. I shook my head. “Accept his rejection. The same way he rejected you.” Beta Lionel grabbed Alpha's arm and pulled him toward the door. I watched as he continued to stare at me. Once they were out of sight, I released the breath I had been holding. I took a few deep breaths to calm my nerves. I was going to make it out of here alive. I didn't know what Alpha meant by getting rid of me, but it didn't sound good. I shuddered thinking about how Alpha Trevor had severed that wolf's head. It was the most terrifying thing I had ever witnessed.
