chapter 11

Shopping with Valenie was always fun. She had this thrilling energy around her when with me. We acted so naturally because we knew the other is not going to judge. It was this unspoken promise since the start. Valenie was never the type to look down upon people. She had a heart of gold and the brain of a genius. She aced her exams, her tests, and everything. And I was just another above-average student in the class. I used to be this outgoing girl when we lived back in town. But now we needed to be extra careful away from our parents and families. We both were on our own and we needed to survive. We spent these last six months working our asses off and saving up as much as we could after cutting out rent and bills. We were now used to living a life of compromise because that was better than being broke. We started with shopping for some of our family members and I needed to shop for my niece or nephew who was about to be born. My sister was pregnant and was ready to pop her baby out any day. I needed to go live with her and help her around the house but she strictly told me to focus on my studies. A month and I'd be away, back to where we came from. I was looking at some baby items in the baby's shop when Valenie's phone rang. I looked at her and she blushed and I knew it was Ale. God. This woman was whipped. I urged her to talk with a nod before picking up some neutral color clothes for the baby. I was so ready to meet my baby. I bet he or she would be cute. I can't wait to spoil them. When she was done talking on the phone, she turned to me. She looked kinda nervous. "Is everything alright?" I asked as we walked to the cashier. "Yeah. Just.... Ale was nearby and said he wants to join us." She said fearing my reaction for sure. I looked at her dead in the eye. "Lia I am sorry I'll ask him No..." I cut her off with my laughter. "God Val. It's alright. I was already done with what I wanted. We can have lunch. Unless you want something." I spoke quickly not wanting her to think something else. "No, I don't think I'll be doing any shopping. Ale would definitely try to pay and I can't risk it." She said dreadfully. She didn't like Ale spending on her which I knew was good. She had this self-respect and I adored her for this. "Alright. Let's go out." I said and just as we stepped outside, we saw Ale, Enzo Asher standing outside. Okay, this was quick. Just as we reached them. Ale took Val in a hug before parting away and pecking her softly on the lips. "Hey, Valenie, Hey Amelia," Asher said and I smiled softly at him. "Hi, Asher." I didn't dare look at Enzo and he also kept his eyes glued to his phone. I felt a pang but didn't think of anything. "Come on. Are you guys done with shopping?" Ale asked both of us and we nodded our heads. "Are you sure? Valenie you didn't buy anything. Should we go buy anything?" This time Ale focused on Val and I almost swooned at his affection. "Okay, it's already lunchtime. Let's head to the food court. I am starving." Asher said and I giggled at him for the face he made. My eyes locked with Enzo who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here. He had sunglasses on and I wondered who wear sunglasses inside the mall? We walked to the food court and settled at the table. Val and Ale sat together in front of me with me and Enzo opposite to them and Asher, adjacent to the boys. Enzo's strong cologne hit my nose and I almost closed my eyes to relish into the smell but Asher distracted me to order. I went for the appetizer because I didn't have any appetite after facing Enzo. And Enzo, he ignored me like a plague. Like I didn't exist and that last night nothing occurred between us. Val was busy talking to Ale and I didn't mind. Asher tried hard to keep me company as he knew I can't interact much. The food arrived in no time and I just sat there playing with my plate of food. All were busy talking about something but I didn't find anything interesting. I felt so bad. I wanted to cry. After everything that happened last night, the man had some serious issues to not even talk to me. The nerve of this man. I felt like stabbing the fork in my hand into his eyes that were glued to his phone. The time went by and I ate as much as I could swallow and stomach. The boys decided to drop us home and we even couldn't say anything. It was getting dark and it was better. Ale sat behind the wheel and Valenie beside him. Asher took the window seat on one side and I was sandwiched between two bulky guys. God. What did they eat? Enzo's hand was behind me on the headrest and his whole front was pressed to me. I sat there still, unmoving as the car sped down the road. I just wanted this ride to end as soon as possible. I couldn't breathe properly in the same proximity as Enzo. The man was seriously retarted with the sunglasses still on his eyes. We were about to reach the apartment building when Enzo breathed near my ear. I stiffened in my place. "I didn't like what you were wearing today Amelia." I frowned at his words. And who was he to say this? I looked at him sharply but his sunglasses hindered my gaze and I breathed deeply. He had no right to say this. Glaring at him, I moved out of the car when Ale parked it near the curb. I didn't wait for Valenie and started climbing up the staircase. My anger knowing no peek. I was in a short skirt that reached above my knees and some band teeshirt. What was wrong in these? ——
