I woke up this morning in a good mood, but I felt as if something was missing. After taking a shower, I found myself lost in my thoughts. As I reflected, I realized that I was the only powerless member of my extraordinary family. My sister, Rebecca, had undergone her transformation at the age of 15, becoming a shape-shifting snake. Our mother, Savanna, is a vampire, and our father is a wolf. As for my brother, Ivan, he is a beast. I, on the other hand, remained a seemingly ordinary human, without any unique abilities.
After my bath, I made my way to the closet and dressed myself in a long, tight dress, tying my hair into a messy bun. Heading downstairs for breakfast, I entered the kitchen, where I found Rebecca preparing the meal.
"Morning, Becca," I greeted, opening the fridge to retrieve a glass of water. "How did you sleep?" she asked.
"Like a baby," I replied with a smile, which she returned.
Rebecca then informed me that we had been invited to a party to celebrate the 100th birthday of our friend, Terra, a ghost. She enthusiastically asked me to accompany her, and I agreed, though I didn't feel particularly enthused about the prospect.
As I sat on the kitchen island, I requested an apple, which Rebecca tossed to me. "Did you get your form yet?" she asked, and I shook my head dejectedly. "Maybe I'm just a worthless human," I said, biting into the fruit.
"I don't think so," Rebecca reassured me. "Maybe you're just a late bloomer, like Mom. She got her powers when she was 25."
I responded with a dismissive "Whatever" as Rebecca began serving the breakfast she had prepared.
At that moment, our father entered the kitchen. I immediately jumped off the island and looked at him, while Rebecca bowed in deference. He waited for me to do the same, but I refused, as Savanna had always taught us not to bow to anyone.
"Bow and greet me," he demanded.
"Me?" I asked, incredulous.
"Yes," he replied, and I laughed before asserting that I would not bow to him, as Savanna had instructed.
Enraged, my father appeared before me in a flash, his hand gripping my neck as his nails dug into my skin, leaving marks. I looked at him, unfazed.
"You ungrateful beast," he spat.
"Your son is a beast, not me," I retorted, and Rebecca cried out, pleading for him to stop hurting me.
With that, our father disappeared, leaving me heavily breathing and panting. Rebecca scolded me for challenging him, but I stood my ground, asserting that I was not a slave to anyone, not even my wolf-like father.
Retreating to my room, I examined the marks on my neck in the mirror, wiping them with a wipe and covering them with a scarf, lest my brother Ivan return and cause a scene.
I went downstairs and ate the eggs, bacon, and salad that was prepared by Rebecca. After I ate, Rebecca told me to get dressed because the party starts at 4 pm and it was 2 pm. I went to my room and took out a black silky dress. It had a side cut that would reveal half of my thigh, long sleeves, and was tight around my waist and hips but loose at the bottom.
I wore the dress and put on dark makeup, straightened my black raven hair, and let it loose so that it could cover the marks that an evil wolf had caused. I wore a simple necklace and earrings and went downstairs where I saw Rebecca all dressed, looking pink and cute.
Our driver, Vincent, dropped us off at the party where a lot of cars were parked outside. We got inside, and the most dangerous, powerful beings were there - no humans were present. Rebecca led me to the bar side, and she ordered a margarita, while I just took water.
"Do you want to go talk to Terra?" Rebecca asked. "No, thank you," I said and drank my water. "Okay, I'll be back now," Rebecca said and left me.
I sat at the bar, and just then, my body began to hurt. I rushed to the restroom and looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes had turned from gray to light blue that looked more white than blue, and my once black hair had turned fiery red. I began to panic, thinking it was the water I had drunk.
"You are now an enchantress," a voice said, and I smiled proudly because I was the only enchantress existing. I got back to the party and went to Rebecca, telling her everything, and she was so happy. "That's a good thing, girl," she said and hugged me. "I wish I was you," she said and continued to drink her drink.
All the ladies were dancing, but I didn't feel like dancing, so I stood there, amazed and praising my hair. While doing so, I felt someone's gaze on me, but I ignored it, as I didn't want to create a scene.
