Chapter 1: How it's started 🌃
That fateful night was seared into my memory, a tempestuous storm that tore my world asunder. The rain lashed against the car windows as we sped along the lonely country road towards Grandmother's estate. The howling winds threatened to send our vehicle careening off the slick pavement at any moment. Thunder boomed overhead, each crack echoing the anguish building in my young heart. In an instant, everything changed. The car went airborne, twisting and tumbling through the darkness. I witnessed my parents' pained expressions as they were thrown about like ragdolls, their cries of terror cutting through the chaos. When the car finally came to a rest, an eerie silence fell over the scene. Dazed and disoriented, I pulled myself from the wreckage, my delicate skin scraped and stinging from shards of broken glass. I rushed to my mother's side, my trembling hands reaching out to her bloodied form. "Daddy, why are you bleeding?" I asked, my voice small and tremulous. My father's pained gaze met mine, tears streaming down his face. "I love you, baby," he breathed, his words barely audible above the howling wind. Then, the light left his eyes, and he was gone. I wept bitterly, my cries carried away by the storm. In the midst of my anguish, a figure emerged from the darkness - a woman draped in an elegant black gown, her features obscured by a veil. Without a word, she gathered me into her arms and carried me away from the scene of the accident. We arrived at a grand estate, its ornate facade bathed in the warm glow of flickering lanterns. The woman ushered me inside, where I was greeted by a young girl, no older than myself, with golden hair and eyes the color of sapphires. "I'm Rebecca," she announced with a beaming smile, "and I'm five years old. What's your name?" I shrunk back, too overwhelmed to respond. The woman placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. "Come, my dear," she said in a soothing tone, "let's get you cleaned up." She led me upstairs to a lavish bathroom, its walls adorned with intricate mosaics and the air perfumed with the scent of exotic oils. As she tended to my wounds, I studied her elegant features - her porcelain skin, her ruby-red lips, and her eyes, which had shifted from blue to a piercing crimson. "My name is Savanna Samson," she said, "and I am your new mother." My eyes widened in shock, but before I could protest, she continued, "This is your new home, and you are not to leave it. Tomorrow, we will go shopping for your phone, laptop, and new clothes." She ushered me to a lavish bedroom, its walls adorned with gilded mirrors and plush velvet furnishings. "The girl downstairs, Rebecca, is my daughter. Tonight, I'll introduce you to your new father and brother." True to her word, as I sat at the ornately carved dining table, Savanna presented me to the two men who had joined us. "This is Ivan, your brother," she said, gesturing to a boy who appeared to be several years my senior. "And this is William, your uncle, and France, your new father." Rebecca beamed at me from across the table, her eyes alight with excitement. "We're going to be best friends forever!" she declared, her voice carrying a wild, untamed quality that contrasted sharply with my own introverted nature. As I sat, quietly observing this new family that had so abruptly been thrust into my life, I couldn't help but wonder what the future had in store. The comforts of this luxurious estate were a far cry from the humble home I had known, and the thought of adapting to this new reality filled me with a sense of unease. But perhaps, in time, I would find my place within this gilded cage, and learn to embrace the unexpected turns that life had in store.
