A Journey Of Two Lovers

Yenzo and Kungawo were in different worlds, even though their hearts beat in sync. Yenzo lived in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, while Kungawo was based in Mount Aylif, Eastern Cape. Both were 17 years old and attended grade 11. Their lives were shaped by dreams and long-distance love, yet they constantly battled the challenges that came with it. Yenzo had a dream of becoming a pilot. He often imagined soaring through the sky, feeling the wind rush past him as he flew high above the clouds. His room was decorated with posters of airplanes, and he spent hours reading about famous pilots and their adventures. He was determined to make his dream come true, but a part of him felt heavy every time he thought about Kungawo. Kungawo, on the other hand, dreamt of becoming an agronomist. She loved nature and wanted to help farmers grow better crops. Sometimes, she would walk through lush fields near her home and picture herself working in a field of green, surrounded by rich soil and vibrant colors. She also had a dream of studying pharmacy, hoping to own a small pharmacy one day where she could help people with their health. They both started dating at such a young age, and though it was filled with exciting moments, it came with heartaches. They had already broken up and gotten back together three times, and now they were trying to make their fourth attempt work. Yenzo was filled with passion for Kungawo, yet doubts crept into his mind. Could they really make this work when they lived so far apart? He had always believed that they could support each other in pursuing their dreams. “Kungawo, I love you for who you are. You’re amazing, and I want us to be together.” “But what about all the times we broke up?” she questioned. “I don’t want to keep hurting you. This distance… it’s hard.” Yenzo sighed deeply and looked out into the night sky, imagining the stars representing the dreams they held. “I know it’s tough. It weighs on me. I want to forget you sometimes, but my heart won’t allow it,” he replied, tears welling in his eyes. “I feel the same way,” Kungawo murmured. “But maybe we should just be friends. It’s safer.” In that moment, Yenzo’s heart sank. Losing her friendship felt like losing a part of himself. However, now he faced a serious choice. “Friends? I don’t know if I can do that, Kungawo,” he said after considering. “But… maybe we can try. Just until we’re ready to explore more.” A silence hung between them. One day, while browsing through social media, Yenzo stumbled upon a photo of Kungawo in a community garden she had visited. He could see pure joy on her face as she held a small seedling, and in that moment, something shifted inside him. He realized that even if they were apart, their lives connected through their dreams. It ignited a renewed fire in him. “Kungawo!” he sent a message. “I think we need to give us another try.” Her response was quick, full of excitement, “Really?” “Yes. I believe in us. Together, we can make our dreams come true. Distance is tough, but love can conquer it!” She replied with a video call request, and when they connected, they both beamed at each other. “I was just waiting for you to say that!” she exclaimed. In that moment, Yenzo felt hope rekindle. They still had their dreams to chase, but now they realized they could do it together, no matter the distance. They didn’t have to be just lovers; they could be each other's biggest supporters. So, in the heart of Ulundi and Mount Aylif, two lovers decided to face the distance together, promising to uplift one another in every challenge that lay ahead. Their hearts remained intertwined, not just through love but through aspirations that seemed limitless. Ngawo once visited the place of KZN, ulundi, where things between her and yenzo got smoothened but returned back to EC, mount Aylif. Her returning back to EC always felt like a burden being pressed down on yenzo's shoulders. Whenever ngawo was in Ulundi things between her and Yenzo were smooth irrespective of how much they fight,but distance will always have an impact on the relationship of these lovers.
