Yi Yi ignored him, trying to walk away. All she wanted now was a bed to get some sleep. But this man wouldn't cooperate; he kept blocking her path. "What do you want?" she finally asked.
"What do I want? I want to be friends with you," he replied sincerely.
Seriously? Was this guy crazy? Most people would have steered clear of her by now, given her appearance. But not him. He kept pestering her. Was she really that attractive? She had never thought of herself as particularly charming. And yet, here was a foreigner, utterly captivated.
"Are you insane?" Yi Yi couldn't believe it. She was about to lose her patience.
"Insane? No, I'm perfectly sane," he assured her, misunderstanding her remark.
A flock of crows flew overhead.
"Please, stop talking. My foot is killing me," Yi Yi winced. She was in no mood for his nonsense. And calling him "insane" seemed to have only encouraged him further. He seemed to think she cared about him now.
"I'll take you to see a doctor," he offered.
"I said I don't need it," she snapped. Did he think they were close or something?
"You can't even walk. Let me carry you."
"..."
Another flock of crows passed by. He was relentless, and the pain in her foot made it hard to argue. Finally, she relented. He had succeeded in helping her.
"Goodbye," she said as her foot was now bandaged. Why was this annoying man still here? Was he expecting her to treat him to a meal? Fat chance. She barely had enough money to feed herself.
"Hey, at least I'm your savior. Mind telling me your name?" he asked as she turned to leave.
Was this how foreign men behaved? Asking for people's names as if they knew them? Even though they were strangers? Yi Yi sighed and told him her name: Yi Yi.
Eastern names were not only diverse but also peculiar. Were there people with the surname "Fish"? Probably. He then introduced himself: "I'm called Nado, Charlie. You can call me Charlie."
"Okay, I'm leaving now," she said, hoping he wouldn't expect her to treat him to a meal.
"Wait, where do you live?" Charlie wasn't ready to let her go. He was intrigued by this Eastern woman, particularly by her attire. If she wasn't filming or begging, she must need his help even more.
