Chapter Seventy-Five If Kate had to explain the restaurant’s position to one more customer she might explode, she thought, producing the bill for table twenty-five, who enjoyed their lunches immensely. Running it over to them, she thanked them, and headed back for the bar. On her way back, table fifteen accosted her. “Mrs Osbourne, what can I do for you? Is everything to your liking with the Ploughmans?” “Oh, yes, dear. It’s delicious.” The elderly woman accepted an envelope from her husband and handed it to Kate. “We heard about your campaign to save the restaurant. Here’s our little contribution to it. We do so hope you succeed. We’ve enjoyed coming here since you opened. I can even remember our first visit all those years ago.” Kate took the fat envelope from her, tears welling up.
