Blurb

In the third year of their mating, Claire North uncovered a truth that shattered everything she believed.

Her blindness wasn't caused by an accident from a rogue attack, as she’d been told. It was her mate—Ethan Pierce, Alpha of the Crescent Shadow Pack—who had taken her eyes. He had given her sight to his true fated mate, the woman he never stopped loving.

Claire had been nothing more than a stand-in. A convenient Luna to keep his pack in order while he prepared to bring his real mate back.

Heartbroken and betrayed, Claire vanished without warning—leaving behind only a severed bond, a completed mating annulment, and an unborn pup.

Ethan tore the realm apart trying to find her.

When he finally did, she was no longer the woman who once adored him. Claire stood strong beside another Alpha—Lucas Sterling—whose presence made even Ethan’s wolf hesitate.

Eyes cold and distant, Claire said only one thing:

“The Luna you used is gone. And she’s never coming back.”

As she leaned into Lucas, the rival Alpha gave Ethan a sharp smile before pulling Claire into a possessive kiss.

“She belongs to me now.”

CHAPTER ONE — Every Ounce Of Love Was Deception
CLAIRE'S POV The hospital lights were too bright. I was conscious, but barely. My body ached all over—heavy, like I’d been dragged through a storm. I had fainted again. Ethan pushed me too far this time with his insatiable demands. That’s why I’d been rushed here this morning—overworked, too tired and weak to stay on my feet. My cheeks bloomed red in embarrassment when I heard the nurses murmuring as they passed by my suite. "Alpha Pierce must be really devoted. Can you believe he still dotes on her like that, even after three years?" "No wonder she fainted. The Alpha's probably wild for his Luna," one of them giggled softly. The doctor had just told me that I was about eight weeks pregnant. At first, I was too shocked to believe it. Honestly, it shouldn’t have even been possible. Ethan had believed he was sterile all his life. We had been together for three years, yet he had never gotten me pregnant. And now, a pup was slowly growing in my womb—a miracle, they called it. I got up from the bed and decided to look for Ethan. I was too happy not to share this wonderful news with him. I walked out of the room with the help of my cane, my other hand braced against the wall for extra support. “Luna Claire, you were supposed to be in bed. You're still weak,” a nurse approached me gently. I smiled faintly at her. "I'm alright. I just need to find my husband." "Oh, the Alpha. I think I saw him at the end of the corridor, talking to someone. Would you like me to take you there?" she offered kindly. I shook my head slightly. "No, it's okay. I can manage." I’ve been blind for almost two years now. In that time, my instincts have sharpened, becoming my second pair of eyes—guiding me through scent and sound. I continued walking until I heard the faint voices of two men. I recognized them instantly—Ethan and his Beta, Ellentt. Out of instinct, I froze in my tracks. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. Their conversation was vague, but I could hear them clearly. And what followed shattered whatever faith I had left in him. Their words pierced through me like a sharp sword. "Approve the corneal transplant. It’s the least you can do for her after everything." Ellentt’s voice drifted through the air. Then came Ethan’s—calm and cold. "No need." "Three years ago, when Isabella needed a transplant, you let her take Claire’s corneas. You kept her blind, even after donor matches showed up. Don’t pretend this isn’t about Isabella. She’s always been the one in your heart," Ellentt said, his voice sharpening with each word. It felt like the air had been knocked out of me. He knew. He always knew. Three years ago, when I woke up blind, they told me it was a complication from the crash—that I had suffered trauma to the brain. But that was all a lie. And I had believed him. I had trusted him. My mate. My husband. My Alpha. I swallowed the lump rising in my throat as I leaned against the wall, gasping for air. "I don’t mind if Claire never sees again," Ethan's cold words came out again. "She already has everything—my name, my future, the pack’s legacy. That should be enough." That should be enough? The hallway spun around me, even though I couldn’t see it. My pulse thundered in my ears. I wanted to scream. To cry. To tear the walls down. But I stood there—frozen, silenced by betrayal. He chose her. Even when she hadn’t chosen him. Even when he had me. Even when I gave him everything—my loyalty, my body, my love. He gave her my sight. And now, I carried his child. A bitter laugh almost escaped my lips. The Moon Goddess must be laughing at me too. I didn’t realize how long I’d stood there until I heard his footsteps approaching. That familiar scent hit me—the one I used to lean into for comfort. Now it made me sick. "What are you doing out here?" he asked gently, as if nothing had just happened. "You should be resting. You’re freezing." He reached for my hands, but I pulled away. "Did the nurse forget your coat again?" he murmured, feigning concern as he stepped closer. My lips were numb. But I had to answer. I couldn’t let him know what I’d heard. Not this time. "What’s wrong, babe?" he asked again, voice soft. Still, I remained silent. So he stepped forward and pulled me into his arms, burying his face in my hair. "Who upset my Luna? Tell me who it was, and I’ll handle it." I steadied myself with the last ounce of strength and courage. "No one. I just found out I’m pregnant," I whispered—low enough that my voice wouldn’t betray me. "I came looking for you.” A small smile tugged at his lips as he lifted his hand and brushed his knuckles against my cheek. "I’m sorry for leaving you. I just went out for a smoke and made some calls," he explained. Liar. I slowly nodded. "The doctor also told me I shouldn’t get too exhausted, or the pup might be affected. It’s all your fault." "Nonsense." He pulled me into his embrace again. "Our pup will be healthy and strong. I won’t let anything happen to either of you." That was the biggest lie I had ever heard in my entire existence. "I won’t do it again, I promise. Don’t stress yourself too much. You might hurt yourself… or the pup." I didn’t say another word. I didn’t want to hear anything else from him—especially not another lie. So I gave him a small, empty smile—the kind I had just learned to wear after finding out the truth. “I want to go home,” I said quietly. “Then let’s get back now,” he agreed, brushing a kiss against my forehead. I nodded lightly, pretending to be okay. But inside, something had started to break. Or maybe it had been broken for a long time— and I just hadn’t realized it until now. …… Later that night, after we got home, I sat alone in our bedroom, listening to the wind brush against the windows. He had gone downstairs to his study to deal with some urgent business. While I sat there, I felt a faint pulse in my lower abdomen—a quiet reminder of the tiny life growing inside me. I curled my fingers over my belly. Our last conversation in the hospital kept circling in my mind: "Do you think we’ll ever get divorced?" I had asked him. He looked at me, startled. "What did you say?" I tilted my head down. "I mean... Do you think couples like us, who start without love...do we ever get to walk away?" His grip on my waist had tightened. His voice turned sharp. "Claire, I will never let you leave me. I will burn the world if you ever try." And that was the moment I knew. I was never free. He had taken my sight. He had lied to me. And yet, he would never let me go. But one day soon, he would feel the pain he gave me. Every ounce of love he stole from me...I would take back. And I would make him bleed for it.
