Chapter 1 Five Years of Silence
The sound of running water came from the bathroom.
Alexander Windsor is taking a shower.
Three o'clock in the morning.
He just got back.
Sophia Carter stood at the bathroom door, wanting to discuss something with him.
She was a little nervous, wondering if he would agree to what she was about to tell him.
Just as I was wondering what to say, strange noises came from inside.
She listened carefully and then understood; he was actually solving it himself...
Each gasp and groan was like a series of heavy blows, relentlessly pounding against her heart. The pain spread like a tidal wave, leaving her adrift in agony, unable to breathe.
Actually, today is her wedding anniversary with him. It's the fifth year she's been married to him, but they've never consummated their marriage.
So, he'd rather take care of it himself than touch her?
As his breathing became more and more rapid, he suddenly let out a low growl of extreme restraint, "Olivia Blake..."
That sound delivered the final, fatal blow to her.
A sudden jolt went through her mind, as if something had been smashed to dust.
She tried to cover her mouth to stop herself from crying out loud, turned and ran, but stumbled on her first step, bumped into the sink, and fell to the ground.
"Sophia Carter?" Alexander Windsor's voice hadn't calmed down yet; you could tell he was trying to control himself, but his breathing was still heavy.
"I...I need to use the restroom. I didn't know you were taking a shower..." she said, clumsily grabbing the sink and trying to stand up.
The more anxious she became, the more disheveled she looked. There was water on the floor and the sink. She finally managed to stand up when Alexander Windsor came out. His white bathrobe was hastily put on and not neatly, but the belt was tied tightly around his waist.
"Did you fall? Let me help you." He made a move to pick her up.
Tears welled in her eyes from the pain, but she still pushed his hand away, looking both disheveled and resolute. "No need, I can manage on my own."
After nearly slipping again, she limped and staggered back to her bedroom.
It is "escape," and that word is absolutely correct.
She had been on the run for the past five years since she married Alexander Windsor.
She escaped the outside world, the strange looks from everyone, and even Alexander Windsor's pity and sympathy—Alexander Windsor's wife was a cripple.
How could a cripple be worthy of the brilliant and successful Alexander Windsor?
But she originally had a pair of beautiful legs...
Alexander Windsor followed closely behind, his gentle tone full of concern, "Did you hurt yourself? Let me see."
"No, it's nothing." She wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, hiding her disheveled state under it.
"Are you really alright?" He was genuinely concerned.
"Mmm." She nodded vigorously, her back to him.
"So you're going to sleep? Didn't you want to go to the bathroom?"
"I don't want to think about it anymore, let's go to sleep?" she whispered.
"Okay, by the way, today is our anniversary. I bought you a gift. Open it tomorrow and see if you like it."
"Okay." The gift was on the bedside table, and she had already seen it, but she knew what was inside without even opening it.
Every year it's the same size box, containing the exact same watch.
In her drawer, along with her birthday presents, there were already nine identical watches; this was the tenth.
The conversation ended there. He turned off the light, lay down, and the air was filled with the damp scent of shower gel. She could hardly feel the bed sinking because, in the two-meter-wide bed, she was sleeping on one side and he was lying on the other side at the very edge. There was enough space between them for three more people to sleep.
Neither of them mentioned Olivia Blake's name, nor did they mention what he had just done in the bathroom, as if nothing had happened.
She lay stiffly, feeling a burning pain in her eye sockets.
Olivia Blake, Luo Yucheng, was his college classmate, his first love, and his goddess.
When they graduated from university, Luo Yucheng went abroad, and the two broke up. Alexander Windsor was devastated and drank heavily every day.
She and he were classmates in middle school.
She admitted that she had secretly liked him since middle school.
Back then, he was the school heartthrob, a cool and aloof academic star, while she was an art student. Although she was also pretty, there were many pretty girls. In high school, where grades were everything, art students weren't as eye-catching, and some people even held prejudices against them.
So, it was just a secret crush on her, and she never thought that one day she could stand in front of him.
She met him when she returned home for summer vacation after graduating from dance academy, and he was in a state of despair.
That night he was drunk and was walking in an S-shape on the road. He didn't look at the traffic lights when he crossed the road, and a car sped by without him being able to slow down. It was her who pushed him away because she was worried about the person following behind him, but she was hit by the car herself.
She is a dance student and has successfully secured a place in a graduate program.
However, after the car accident, she became lame.
She can no longer dance.
Later, he quit drinking and married her.
He would always feel guilty towards her, always be grateful, always speak softly to her, always be indifferent to her, and always give her many gifts and a lot of money.
But he alone did not love her.
She thought that time would heal everything, and that time would dilute everything.
But she never expected that five years later, he would still remember the name "Olivia Blake" so vividly, and even when he was serving himself, he would still call her by that name.
In the end, she was just too naive and foolish...
She didn't sleep a wink all night; she read that email on her phone no less than a hundred times that night.
It was a graduate school offer from a foreign university, which was also what she was supposed to discuss with him tonight—she wanted to study for a master's degree abroad, was that okay?
But now it seems there's no need to discuss it with him.
Five years of marriage, countless sleepless nights, and now, from this moment on, we can finally begin the countdown.
When he got up, she was still dozing off. She heard him talking to the nanny, Aunt Chen, outside: "I have a social engagement tonight. Tell Mrs. not to wait for me and to go to bed early."
After giving him his instructions, he went back to the room and looked at her again. She was covered by the blanket, and her pillow was soaked with tears.
When he goes to the company, she always prepares the clothes he wants to wear in advance and puts them aside, so he just has to wear them.
But she didn't today.
He went to the dressing room to change his clothes and then went to the company.
She then opened her eyes, only to find them severely swollen.
My phone alarm went off.
It was a time she had set for herself; it was time to get up and read English.
After getting married, because of her leg injury, she spent 90% of her time confined to the house and no longer went out. She could only divide her day into segments and find something to do to pass the time.
She picked up her phone, turned off the alarm, and then aimlessly scrolled through various apps.
My mind was a jumbled mess, and I couldn't concentrate on anything.
Until, I suddenly came across a video on a certain book.
The people in the picture are so familiar...
Then I looked at the account name: Olivia BlakeCC.
This big data...
The release time was last night.
Sophia Carter clicked on the video, and immediately lively music started playing. Then someone shouted: "One, two, three, welcome back Olivia Blake! Cheers!"
That voice was actually Alexander Windsor.
