"Always running," Alpha Gene said, breaking the silence. He was shaking his head.
"Jessica, what did you do?" Jessica looked at her father, fighting the urge to roll her eyes.
"Yes, father, of course, it was me," she relented with a heavy sigh. As dessert was being served, a maid went to place a bowl in front of her, which she politely declined. It was a strawberry rhubarb pie with vanilla icecream.
"I think it's time we went father," Jessica said, standing. Gene grumbled at her, shoving a piece of pie into his mouth.
"And what for?" he asked,
"It's past your bedtime," she hissed through her teeth, grabbing his cane and helping him up. He allowed himself to be handled as such, shoving another large bite of pie and icecream in his mouth.
"On the rag I see, I'll have to tell your mother. I'm not here to deal with it," Gene said, wiping his mouth as he eyed his daughter up and down. He puffed at her, grabbing his cane and shuffling away. Jessica groaned before turning towards the other 3 alphas and their companions. She forced a smile as she gripped her handbag tightly in frustration.
"This is a very interesting day, wasn't it?" she asked,
"It was lovely getting to meet each other. Maybe next time it will be in a less" She looked around the room before settling on the door. Dax all but used to run away from dinner.
"Uncomfortable," she finished, turning back to the table. She waved at Jenny and Raphael, who were happily munching away at the sweet treat before them. They waved back with a smile.
"Till next time," she bowed and followed her father, who had barely made it to the door without her assistance. She hooked her arm with his and guided him out.
"Alpha Damien, Alpha Vincent. Once we're finished, could I speak with you outside?" Alpha Justin asked. Damien and Vincent nodded.
"I don't see why not," Vincent said, taking a bite of ice cream, Damien nodded.
"I'd sure like to make formal introductions to you and your Beta as well," Justin smiled, taking his own bite at the pie before him. Silence ticked back until the 4 adults and 2 children were standing and grabbing their things. The group walked out into the foyer, being guided by a maid towards the front door. Beta Miles stepped back while the 5 continued out. He turned towards the maid at the door. Her head bowed to him.
"Excuse me, miss," Miles started. The maid remained silent, looking at the floor,
"I'm sure you were told not to talk out of turn. I would just like you to inform your master to reach me at this number for more information on his order," Miles continued, pulling a card from his pocket. He offered it to the maid, who simply raised her palm up towards him. He placed the card in her palm, she stood frozen, Miles eyed her and then took a glance around the foyer for anyone else before heading out the door to meet with his alpha.
"I'm sure you're aware that a pack like this has got to have eyes and ears everywhere," Alpha Justin said as Miles was walking out,
"Yes, we have chosen not to speak too freely when by ourselves," Damien confirmed. Justin nodded, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a metal tin. He popped it open, grabbing himself a cigar, he held the tin out to the two alphas before him. Each declined and he nodded in understanding. He lit the cigar, taking a couple of puffs with a sigh.
"This pack is quite an interesting one, isn't it?" Justin said, looking out at the grand driveway before them. It had a circular cobblestone path for cars to enter and exit the main packhouse grounds. In the center was a water feature depicting a wolf on top of a deer carcass. The Bloody Dagger's crest was ingrained on the side of the stone with intricate filigree followed by the pack's motto. The crest was of a deer skull with a dagger plunged into it and "Bound by Blood" etched underneath it.
"It definitely leaves you wanting to know more about it," Vincent agreed, looking at the water feature as well. It was surrounded by bushes and flowers neatly trimmed. Spotlights lit up the fountain in the darkened night sky, they hadn't realized how late it had gotten. The dinner felt so fast, but had actually been hours after the assessment.
"My card," Justin said, drawing the twins' attention,
"I would love to talk more in a more private setting," Vincent accepted the card as a dark red Rolls-Royce phantom pulled up, a butler stepped out, handing the keys to Miles, bowing to him.
"Have a good night, Stones," Justin said, getting into the back. He rolled down the window after Miles shut the door and moved to the driver's side. He waved at them as they drove off.
"I got to get myself one of those cars," Damien said as their car pulled up, since they had their younger sibling, they went with the pack's BMW 7. It was still a luxury sedan, but it wasn't the go-to for either twin. A butler handed Damien the keys, bowing and stepping into the pack house. Vincent helped buckle in the younger pups, Jenny already yawning. Raphael rubbed his eyes, refusing to look or act the least bit tired, causing Vincent to smile at him. When the two were secured, Vincent went into the passenger seat and Damien took the driver.
"The debrief with dad will have to wait until tomorrow," Vincent said. Damien nodded, agreeing.
"I think I'm going to put in a formal request to contract that rogue though," Damien said,
"I think there is something much larger at play here than a simple rogue pup. Having her close by will allow us some insight into the pack." Vincent looked at his brother.
"What could she possibly give us?" he asked,
"From what we've seen, this pack does not like her. They didn't even seem thrilled at the fact that Braxton heir gave her a special detail thing" Vincent said, leaning back in his seat.
"If he's willing to give her an assignment like that, he might want to choose her as his Luna," Damien said.
"Think about it," he began. "You have a very hated individual that you've kept on the outskirts of the pack but trained in some of the most challenging precision sports, and then, when she wins, then and only then do you accept her into the pack and give her an assignment that has her at your side" Vincent 'hmm-ed' at his brothers' assessment.
"I can see where you are going with it, but if you think about it my way. Something like that doesn't make much sense. Why choose a Luna your pack isn't going to trust, like, respect, all of that?" Vincent said.
"Maybe there's more to her than just being a rogue," Damien said. The thought caused Vincent to pause. Surely there couldn't be anything special? But the thought nagged at him incessantly. Not to mention his feelings on seeing her down on the field. He wasn't one to overtly lust or find females attractive, he had steeled himself for his fated mate. Watching her though, he thought to himself, drew him in, in a way he couldn't describe.
"Perhaps we just have to request an audience with future Alpha Braxton, invite him to the pack," Vincent said.
"She is sure to arrive with him. If his father is planning a succession early, as he is already planning ambassador trips, then inviting him early can be shown as an act of good faith towards Bloody Dagger." Damien smiled at his brother.
"Aren't I supposed to be the smart diplomatic one?" he joked. Vincent laughed at him.
"I am the future Alpha too. I have to show I can take on all aspects of the role," Damien laughed, and the two brothers settled into silence until they reached their pack boarders. Stopping to alert the guards of their arrival before finally reaching home.
