Healing the Alpha

Lucy's POV

Getting ready for school today, all I can think about is how much is going to change in the next few weeks. My twin brother and I will turn eighteen soon and shortly after he will be taking over as Alpha from our father.

We all knew this day was coming, but part of me is still terrified. When we turn eighteen, we all have the possibility of finding our mate. Being an Alpha’s daughter, there is pressure because usually we find another Alpha as a mate.

“Lucy, Lucy come on, we are going to be late.” My brother yelled from the kitchen. We need to head to school, and I always get lost in thought and lose track of time. I like to plan things out and have a plan for everything, but I have also learned how the Moon Goddess likes to keep us on our toes.

“Luce, seriously we are going to be late. Mark, I know you can hear me too, if you want a ride. Let's go.” Mark is the son of the Beta of the pack. He is like another brother to me. We are all the same age and have grown up together. Do not get me wrong, he is attractive, like blonde hair, blue eyes and 6’4” with a warrior’s body. But I have never seen him more than family. My brother has the option to pick his Beta, but we all know that he will pick Mark. They do everything together. My brother also trusts Mark with his life, which is important when leading a pack.

My brother is also 6’4”. He has brown hair and blue eyes (which apparently is rare) just like me. He also has a fit physique, but when you work every day to be the strongest so that you can protect the pack, that is usually what happens.

As far as the rest of the family goes, my father, Nolan, is the current Alpha of the Midnight Pack. We are currently one of the top three largest packs in the region. My mother is Luna Amelia. She is from the Blood Moon pack, which is the top Pack in the region. She comes from a Beta family and that is how we have alliances with the top packs. We also have a little brother, Caden, who is seven and, even with the age gap, we are close.

“Sorry Brad, I just got caught up thinking about all that is going to happen in the next couple of weeks.”

“I know Luce, but that doesn’t always mean you will have to leave.” I know he means well, but being of an Alpha family, there is a good chance that I am mated to a high-ranking member.

“Brad, you know your sister encompasses everything a Luna should be, she is good at everything. Its almost annoying how well she succeeds at everything she does. There is no way she is not a Luna of another pack." Mark is always the realistic one, whereas my brother likes to shoulder most of the burden.

Being twins and coming from a tight-knit family, we are both just so scared of being separated. We have done everything together and have been the best support to each other.

Everyone hopes Mark and I will end up together. He is always with Brad and I, but what they do not know is that to me he is like another brother, and I am sure he also sees me as a sister.

Brad just rolls his eyes, “can we just get to school so we can end this depressing conversation please.” The ride is silent, but the reality is just sinking in. I love my family and I love my brother, but we all know that we can't control what the Moon Goddess has planned.

The Moon Goddess is the one who created us, she also has selected our mates. The stories have always said that she picks mates that are compliments to each other so that her children (us wolves) can all flourish together. These pairings don’t always work out though. Just like humans, greed and desire can always create some kind of chaos or jealousy.

“Brad is right, we do not always know what is going to happen. Just take a deep breath and we can take this day by day,” says my wolf, Maze.

“I know Maze, but knowing all that is to come, I would rather stress a little and be somewhat prepared than make it harder in the long run.”

“Youre right, just know that I always have your back and you are never alone.” Maze then just recedes to the back of my mind. I love having a wolf. She is someone I can talk to, and she is someone who feels everything I do. She is more of a live in the moment type, whereas I like to have a plan.

In all reality, in two weeks, we will graduate, and both turn eighteen. Our parents are throwing a party for the top packs to attend. They like to show off their children. I also think they are hoping that we will find our mates with other packs in attendance.

When we graduate, I will graduate with my nursing degree and my brother is graduating with his business degree. He has been helping Dad with the businesses that help keep the pack running and supply jobs. And I have been working at the pack hospital, which is my safe place. I love helping others and being the calm in their storm.

I only hope that when I find my mate, no matter the rank, he will still allow me to help in the pack hospital. I do not want to be a typical woman that just sits pretty.

So, now we will just wait and see.
