I still just do not understand why. I wake up every morning, and just continually replay everything in my head. We were happy, right? I thought that she was happy. Never did I think that one day I could have everything, and the next I could lose it all.
“Moon Goddess, if you are listening, I do not know what I did to be punished like this. I have always tried to be the Alpha that I needed to be. I have protected and led this pack in a way that I thought was honorable.”
I try talking to try and get some answers. Why did Justice leave? We were mates. I found her when I turned 18 and now that I am 23, she has decided to leave. We had a story book life. My family loved her like she was their own, and I always thought her family felt the same way about me. So, when she rejected me at the full moon ball that we hosted, it didn’t make any sense.
Knock knock, “Hey Alex, I know that you are probably lost in thought again, but I thought we could go down to breakfast.” My beta Benson says to me.
“I know that we should go down there, but I am so tired of the sympathetic looks. I know that it has only been a week, but I just want to move past this.”
“Bro, I get it, but you also have to realize you didn’t just lose your Luna, we lost our Luna too. We all have questions, and we are all heart broken, but we want to support you as well.”
“Maybe we will just have a pack meeting. This way we can also discuss what plans we have coming in the future, and maybe we can get back on the same page.”
“Well, I am glad you feel that way, Alpha, because I made sure the whole pack was in attendance this morning for breakfast.”
“All right, I guess its now or never. Let’s go Ben.”
He may be my Beta, but Ben is also my best friend. We grew up together, and because of his family, we have been able to hold rank and poise really well for the last few years. His Aunt Amelia is actually the Luna of the Midnight pack with Alpha Nolan. We may not have been able to go and visit much lately, but we are really close to their pack.
Our pack, Blood Moon, has around 5,000 pack members, and theirs is closer to 4,000. They are the third pack in rank, just behind the Shadow pack with 4,200 members.
We always see them when we go to pack leader events. We usually have Alpha, Luna and Beta go, and then leave our back to the Gama and Delta’s to run.
As we walked into the dining hall, all members' heads turned. We have the garage like doors up so that some of the pack is outside as well seated at tables. I know they want some answers, but I really need food first to have the energy to handle all of this.
“I know that all of you have questions about all that has transpired, but I ask that you allow us to enjoy this meal first and then we can have a meeting about everything. So enjoy your meal and time with friends and family this morning first.”
Everyone nods their heads and returns their attention to their table, which I have never been more grateful for.
As I approached my spot at the table, I saw the Omega set down a plate at my seat.
“Thank you.” She nods.
To my left is my father, who is the previous Alpha John, who gives me a look as though he approves of how I handled walking in here, which is a relief. My mother, Angela, gives a look like she wants to take away the pain. And then my little sister and little brother, Tanya and Evan, just look like they are hurt that I have shut them out.
The Beta family is here as well. To my right is Benson, and then his father and mother, James and Jillian. Then his brothers, Isaac and Jensen.
“All right, as I eat, we can discuss a little so that you guys know what is going on before I address the whole pack.” Everyone makes a slight nod, letting me know to continue. I am thankful they are not all bombarding me with questions.
“So, to start, no, I do not know why Justice left. It blindsided me as much as I am sure it blindsided y’all as well. I thought the ball was going great and then out of nowhere she approaches me and rejects me without a second thought. I have always said that I do not want to keep a mate that is unhappy, so I accepted the rejection and she decided to leave the pack. Questions thus far?”
My sister Tanya is quick to jump in, and I know she saw Justice as a sister and friend and the pain in the look on her face shows one of betrayal. “I saw her with Alpha Zack from the Shadow Pack. They looked like they were having a serious conversation, and then I saw her walk towards you.”
Everyone looked at me, “well that makes sense because that is the pack that she asked that her and her family to be transferred to.”
My mom then jumped in, “sweetheart, how are you doing? You have been so distant, and we all wanted you to have space, but how are you?”
“Honestly, I am still a little in shock. I keep replaying everything because I thought that we were happy. I keep asking the Moon Goddess if I did something to deserve this, but just not having any answers sucks.”
“Son,” my dad says as he puts his hand on my shoulder. “You have been nothing but the best leader, son, brother, and mate. You made sure to make time and include everyone. We were all close to both you and Justice, she didn’t just blindside you, she blindsided us all.”
“I appreciate hearing that. I want to talk to you guys about this more, and I am sure there will be plenty more questions, but I feel I need to tell the pack all that we discussed so we can try and move past this.”
Evan jumped to ask one last question. “What does this mean for you and the pack of the Luna?”
“All I know is, at this time, I don’t think I could ever open my heart to love again. I just need time to allow all that has happened to sink in and still run the pack as it should be.” Everyone nodded and with that we all walked to the arena to talk to the pack.
