Chapter 1: Anticipating(Sheena's Pov)
It was the day before the mating ceremony, and I could barely hold back my energy. Tomorrow, I'll be standing before the pack, promising to adore and safeguard Luca, our alpha, until the end of my life. It's an overwhelming duty, however, one that fills me with expectation and delight. I've known since I was a youngster that Luca was my mate, picked by the moon goddess herself to be his accomplice. Furthermore, now that we're at last together, I can hardly trust it. I've always been drawn to things that are a bit unusual or hidden, like a moth to flame. Also, presently, as I stand before the mirror, getting ready for the mating ceremony, I can feel the excitement of the unusual flow through my veins. My heart raced with expectation, my senses on a high alert like an animal sensing a storm approaching. I smoothed out my dress, a streaming white outfit that makes me feel like a queen. Yet, in addition, the dress makes me feel strong - I'm about to embark on a journey that will change my life forever. I'm thinking about Luca who would soon be my mate. I visualise him in my mind, his agonising eyes and carved highlights making my heart skip. In addition to his looks, I'm captivated by the aura of intrigue and risk that envelops him- similar to a mysterious shadow that I find irresistible. While walking back and forth in my small home, I couldn't help but ponder the reason that led me to this place. I remember the day Luca previously showed up in our pack, his penetrating blue eyes locking onto mine as though he realised I was his. I was only a young wolf at that point, however, I felt a profound connection with him, a feeling of having a place that I had never felt. I knew at that point that I was intended to be his, and he was intended to be mine. Be that as it may, life had different plans. Luca was at that point focused on another, and I was passed on to stand by without complaining about the opportunity to be with him. I attempted to zero in on my examinations and my preparation, however my heart was consistently with Luca. I watched from far off as he drove our load with strength and shrewdness, and I realised that I needed to be close by. Presently, we are right here, just before our mating ceremony. I'm attempting to calm my nerves, yet it's no use. I'm energized, anxious, and I'm terrified at the same time. Imagine a scenario where I'm not enough for him. What if I fail in my responsibilities as his mate? Similarly, as I'm beginning to feel more sure, I hear a sound at the entryway. My heart skipped as I wondered who it very well may be. I'm not expecting any guests, and the pack is all caught up with planning for the upcoming event. I've found a way to uncover more unusual things on my patio. He's mysterious and attractive, with piercing green eyes that seem to be gazing right into me 'Sheena,' he says, his voice low and imposing. 'We need to talk.' My senses are shouting at me to be cautious, however my interest is getting the better of me. 'Who are you and how did you know my name?' I asked, attempting to sound courageous. 'I go by Ryker,' he answered, his eyes never leaving mine. I have known you since you were a child. I have something to tell you, that could make a huge difference.' My heart was hustling at that point, and I had a feeling of danger hiding just underneath the surface. 'What do you mean?' I asked, attempting to keep my voice consistent. Ryker grins a shrewd, naughty grin that caused my hair to stand on end. 'How about I simply tell you that there's something you would want to see,' he said. 'Something that will make you want to see more.' I'm left there, feeling like my entire world has been flipped around. Furthermore, as I closed the entryway and attempted to process what simply had occurred, I couldn't shake the tendency that the upcoming mating ceremony will be surprisingly complicated. As I attempted to shake off the sensation of disquiet, I chose to go to Luca's. I wanted to know reality. Yet, when I showed up at his lodge, I saw that it was vacant. The fire was out, and the room was dull. However, at that point, I saw a piece of paper on the table. A note addressed to me. My heart dashing, I got it and read the words: 'Sheena, meet me at the old oak tree in the backwoods at midnight. Come alone.' - Ryker I was confused and interested at the same time. What is it that Ryker needs with me? What's more, for what reason does he believe I should meet him secretly? I felt a chill run down my spine as I understood that I was in for a long and risky evening… I folded the note and put it in my pocket, my mind struggling with possible outcomes. What might Ryker at any point need with me? Also, for what reason does he believe that I should meet him secretly? I thought again. I attempted to push the considerations as far away from me as possible and focus on the main job. I wanted to prepare for the mating ceremony tomorrow, I had a couple of things to do. In any case, as I did my errands, I couldn't shake off the possibility that something was off. Ryker's note has left me with a feeling of disquiet, and I couldn't resist the urge to consider what he's preparing. As the night went on, I ended up looking at the clock, the time increasing more frequently. Midnight was drawing closer, and I realised I wanted to settle on a choice. Do I overlook Ryker's note and imagine I never saw it? Or on the other hand, do I take a risk and meet him in the backwoods? Other than noticing that he's a bit off, I had never really paid much attention to him before. I know it's a gamble, however something about Ryker's words impacted me. I felt like he knows something I don't, however, I was left thinking about what this could be. I could figure it out or pause for a minute or two and continue ahead. In any case, I couldn't resist the opportunity to continue to ponder on Ryker's unexpected appearance and note. At long last, at midnight I settled on my choice. I got out of my lodge and into the haziness of the woods, advancing toward the old oak tree. As I approached the tree, I saw Ryker hanging tight for me. He's resting up against the storage compartment, his eyes glimmering in the twilight. "Sheena," he said, his voice low and imposing. "I knew you'd come." I gestured, my heart beating in my chest. "What is it that you need, Ryker?" I asked, attempting to keep my voice consistent. Ryker smiles a cunning, devilish smile. "I need to show you something," he says. "Something that will make a huge difference." What's more, with that, he transformed and disappeared from view, passing on to me to follow him into the unexplored world. I delayed the slightest bit, contemplating whether I had to trust Ryker. In any case, something about him appeared to be genuine, and I felt like I wanted to know what he's talking about. What could be the thing he's going to show me that will probably make a huge difference? What difference is he talking about? What is he truly doing? These were my considerations. So I followed, frightened and my heart beating in my chest. We walked further into the woods, the trees developing nearer together and the unclearness becoming more. At last, we came to a clearing. At the heart of the clearing, stood a majestic wolf sculpture, its piercing eyes glowing with an otherworldly light as the sun sets behind it. Ryker motioned to the sculpture. "This is the Gatekeeper of the Pack," he says. "Also, it holds the mysteries of our pack's past and future." I felt a shudder run down my spine as I approached the sculpture. There's something strong and outdated about it, something that caused me to feel like I was within the sight of something unique. "What mysteries?" I asked, my voice scarcely over a murmur. Once more, Ryker grinned. "Draw nearer," he said. "Furthermore, I'll show you." I delayed the slightest bit, however my interest got the better of me. I made a real connection with the sculpture's paw, and as I did, I felt a flood of energy run through my body. Out of nowhere, dreams began blazing through my mind. I saw the pack's set of experiences, extending back hundreds of years. I saw our predecessors, battling and attempting to get through. Furthermore, I saw our future, confidence and plausibility. I pulled my hand back, panting in surprise. "How did you…?" I asked Ryker, my voice shaking with fervour. Ryker simply smiled. "I showed you reality," he says. "Furthermore, presently, you have a decision to make." I saw him, confused. Reality? I wondered "What decision?" I asked him Ryker's smile became more extensive. "The decision to depend on your instinct, or to follow your obligation." Furthermore, with that, he transformed and vanished, passing on to me to consider the facts of the Gatekeeper and the decision that lied ahead. "The decision to depend on your instinct, or to follow your obligation" continued to reverberate in my brain. Could this be about Luca's bond with me or something different that I don't have any idea about? I continued to wonder. I began hearing sounds from where I was all the while standing, I speedily passed on the tree and made a dash for my cottage. As I got back, I was anxious. I considered telling somebody about what had simply occurred. 'No, I should not allow this to bother me', I said. Then, at that point, I wondered internally, that all that mattered right now was the mating ceremony. It's the day I have been dreading for, nothing of any kind ought to be in the middle between that. Once more, I looked at my dress and smiled, then, at that point said…tomorrow would be unique.
