Damon’s mother arrived the next day when she heard that her son’s mate had been marked by wildlings. The issue seemed to be more serious than he initially thought. She insisted on having at least one person guard Maya at all times. Maya’s mother seemed horrified and very anxious when Damon told her about the danger her daughter was in. “But why Maya? She is always home, keeps to herself and minds her own business!” She could not believe it. For the first time in Maya’s life, she saw her mother show concern for her. Maya did not know what was going on. But she did recognize the men, and she knew that, somehow, they were trying to get her.
