Katty held her breath and unlocked the door to the trailer house. It had been weeks since she and Bea had been back. She told Bea she was going to the grocery store for peanut butter and cereal. Her two most favorite things in the world. Katty had lied—or at least at that minute she’d lied. She would go to the store on her way back from checking the trailer house. She made sure she had enough money before she left so she wouldn’t lie. She had lied so many times to that baby girl. Not ever again. She was not lying to her ever—no matter how hard it might be.
