Chapter Six

DENISE "And the final touch..." I fastened a rubber band over my hair and made it into a neat ponytail. The night had been excruciatingly long and painful. My hands fell and every iota of charisma in me dissipated until there was nothing left. I hated thinking about my situation. How did I end up as the bride of a beast? Why didn't I run away when I had the chance to? Why did I give in to my parents' wishes without a thorough fight? Those questions kept popping into my head all through the night, keeping me from sleeping properly through the night, leaving me with no more than a wink of sleep. But it was a new day and a chance to make a good impression of myself. It was only seven in the morning and I was already fully dressed. I decided on a mini blue long sleeved dress with a pair of black wedge heels. Only heavens knew who would walk in through the doors at any f*****g moment and it would make a bad impression of me if I was seen underdressed. It was uncomfortable of course, walking around in heels all day but it was the way I had no choice to adapt to. I had to be perfect at all time. I applied a light red lipstick on my lips as my final touch of make up then stood up to leave my bedroom and get ready to have breakfast. Before my wedding with Lucas, we had been engaged for quite some time. I came here often whenever he requested an audience with me to discuss about our wedding plans and we went on dates a lot too to please the media. That was one thing I was grateful for, I wasn't in an unfamiliar territory all though it felt far from home. I sat myself down at the dining table with my eyes focused on my phone. The halls were silent and empty except for the maids that tended to the floors. I looked around once more in case I had missed someone but nobody else aside from the maids and I were around. A light skinned woman walked up to me with a smile that wasn't too formal but not too informal as well. "Good morning madam, is there anything you would like while you wait for breakfast to be prepared?" I responded with a smile of the same accuracy. "I could use some tea if you wouldn't mind." "I'll go on and get it ready madam." She responded with a slight bow. I nodded my head in appreciation. "Thank you. Uh excuse me, I was just wondering, why is nobody else around by this time?" "Oh, the other masters around the house will be down by nine o'clock today, it is how it is usually done around here." She respectfully responded. "Ah... I guess I didn't know." I gave her my brightest smile to show my appreciation. "Thank you." She disappeared from the dining room into the kitchen to prepare my order and I focused my attention back on my phone. "I have it that you slept well to be awake so early." I flinched from the voice that came from behind me. I turned around to find Lucas standing behind me and I rose to my feet. I stood with my gaze fixed on his and with my chest forward in a stance of confidence. "Good morning Lucas." He walked over to the other side of the dining table and sat himself down while adjusting his neck tie. "I have work to attend to so I will be leaving immediately after breakfast. There is somewhere we both have to be by three so be ready by two, I'll come pick you up by two so be ready by then." He spared me no less than a glance as he spoke in a tone that sent chills down my spine. Everything about him was as scary as his personality and void of emotion. His aura was filled with arrogance and pride. "Work?" I asked him with an arched brow as I sat myself back down. The look on his face was as if he was surprised that I was questioning him but I decided to pay no attention to it and just keep on talking. After all, I had freedom of speech. "Don't you think you should stay at work for a little while?" He ignored my question and picked himself up. As he rose to a standing position, I followed his movement. The maid walked back to the dining room with my cup of tea prepared in her hands and Lucas turned to face her. "Good morning Olivia, I won't be having breakfast today, due to some annoying reason, I have suddenly lost my appetite. Whatever Miss Castillo needs till I return, do help her out and show her around the house if she wishes for a tour." The maid bowed her head at him and Lucas started towards the door. I followed after him and grabbed his hand. "Where are you going? I'm still talking to–" He pulled me like I weighed nothing and pinned me to the wall with a force that caused me to groan from the pain. My back ached as he forced me to the wall and my wrists felt like it was going to lose every single drop of blood in it as he gripped them so tightly it began to ache like crazy. "Lucas! What do you think you are doing?!" I yelled out angrily while trying to fight back my tears. "And what the hell do you think you are doing? Who the f**k do you think you are to try to argue with me?" His brow arched as he glared at me like he wanted to rip my lungs out of my throat. And I knew he would if he could. "I wasn't trying to argue with you, I just wanted you to see a point!" I asked in a loud tone, trying to cover his voice with mine. I tried not to shudder but it was impossible with the way he glared at me with flames of rage burning in his eyes. "I gave an order, who are you to even speak up? Do you really think you have a say?" "I am your wife Lucas! Not a freaking maid to give orders to!" I spat out at his face. Tears filled my eyes as I spoke, as hard as I tried to suppress them. "Sure, but you're only a wife on paper! Our marriage is nothing but something based on a sheet of paper, no more than a deal to help me grow my company." He said cold heartedly as he stared into my eyes. "You have no f*****g right to speak to me so freely like you do. You're not a maid? Sure, you're worse than a maid, you should be silent when I speak and nod when I give an order, not try to make a point to me. Get that into your f****d up brain." "Can't you just calm down for once and try to think?" My tears trailed down my face as I spoke. "Can't you just be human for once?" My voice broke as I spoke. My body and soul was hurting more than ever. He leaned in closer that I had to hold my breath out of the fear that he would be angry if I breathed. "You're right, I can't be human. I'm a monster." I felt shivers run down my spine as we stared into each other's eyes. I felt like I was dead.
