She came back for revenge. She never planned to fall in love.Noelle Elise Avenoir has learned three things about the world, love makes you vulnerable, loyalty has a price and trust is a luxury she can no longer afford.Once, she believed in forever. She believed in the man who promised her a future, in the family that raised her and in the life she was building for herself. Then ambition proved more powerful than love, and the people she trusted made decisions that cost her everything.Years later, Noelle has become everything they never expected and everything they should fear.Wealthy, calculating and devastatingly difficult to read, she has reinvented herself and returned with one purpose,to destroy the empire of the man who betrayed her. Every move is calculated. Every weakness is studied. Every step brings her closer to the downfall she has spent years preparing. Then she meets Dominic Belmont.Charming, formidable, and frustratingly perceptive, Dominic is her business rival and the one man who refuses to be manipulated by her. Their relationship begins with competition, sharp disagreements and an attraction neither is willing to acknowledge but beneath their rivalry grows something neither anticipated,a connection that threatens to reach the parts of Noelle she has spent years burying. For the first time, she encounters someone who sees through her carefully constructed defences and doesn’t mistake her strength for an absence of pain but Noelle has a secret. Her revenge began long before Dominic entered her life. By the time he discovers the truth, her plans are already in motion and the final decision is hers alone to make. Dominic won’t ask her to abandon her choices for his sake but he won’t pretend those choices have no consequences, either. Then the past reveals a truth that changes everything. The betrayal that shaped Noelle’s life was more complicated than she knew. Her own family helped orchestrate her downfall, forcing her to confront the people she trusted most and the uncomfortable truth that she, too, once sacrificed someone else’s future out of fear.Revenge was supposed to give her back her power.Instead, it forces her to confront the woman she has become.Because destroying the people who hurt her may be the easiest thing Noelle has ever done.Learning to live with herself afterward may be the hardest. And loving Dominic may require something more frightening than revenge ever did, the courage to stop running from the possibility of being hurt again. In a world where everyone has something to gain, Noelle must decide whether getting everything she wanted is worth losing the person she might still become.

Prologue : The Night Everything Ended
The first time I watched a man lose everything, I wore black. The second time, I wore red.Tonight, I wore white,I thought there was something poetic about that. White for innocence. White for new beginnings. White for the woman I might have been if the people I loved hadn’t taught me that kindness was a weakness and loyalty was a currency but I had never been particularly good at pretending to be innocent. From the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, the city glittered beneath me, indifferent to the destruction unfolding several floors below. Somewhere in the building, men in tailored suits were whispering into phones. Assistants were running between offices. Lawyers were drafting statements that would be obsolete by morning and one man was learning what it felt like to have the future ripped from his hands. My future. I lifted the champagne flute to my lips, but I didn’t drink. In less than an hour, the news would break. By sunrise, the company he’d spent years building would be fighting for survival. By the end of the week, the people who had once answered his calls before the first ring would pretend they had never known him.It was extraordinary how quickly loyalty disappeared when money became uncertain.I knew. I’d watched it happen before. My phone vibrated against the marble countertop. UNKNOWN NUMBER: You’ve made your point. Call me. I stared at the message. Then another arrived. UNKNOWN NUMBER: Noelle, please. A laugh escaped me, quiet and humorless. Please. He had never used that word when it mattered. Not when he stood before me and explained why our future had to be sacrificed for his opportunity. Not when he told me he loved me with the same mouth that delivered the news that my dreams would have to wait. Not when I asked him whether he had considered what his decision would cost me.He had looked me in the eyes, that was the part I remembered most clearly. He hadn’t looked away, hadn’t stammered, hadn’t even appeared ashamed. He’d simply told me I would recover as if resilience were permission to hurt me.I set the champagne down.My reflection stared back from the dark window: immaculate hair, red lips, diamonds at my ears and a white dress that cost more than the first month’s salary I had earned after losing everything,I looked like a woman who had never been denied anything.I wondered what he would think if he knew how many nights I’d spent wondering whether there was anything left of the woman he had betrayed. My phone rang. This time, I answered. “Hello.” Silence. Then his voice, stripped of the confidence that had once made me believe he could do anything. “What have you done?” I closed my eyes. For a moment, I was somewhere else entirely. In another room, years younger, listening to a man promise me forever. I could almost remember what it felt like to believe him. Almost. “You’ll have to be more specific,” I said. “Don’t do this, Noelle.” I turned away from the window. “Do what?” “You know exactly what I’m talking about. The acquisition. The board. The accounts that suddenly won’t clear. Every investor I’ve spoken to today has received information that could destroy this company.” “Then perhaps you should have chosen your investors more carefully.” “You think this is funny?” “No.” I examined my nails. “I think it’s overdue.” He exhaled sharply. I could picture him dragging a hand through his hair, pacing the office, searching for the flaw in a plan he hadn’t even realized was being built around him. For years, I had imagined this conversation,in some versions, I screamed. In others, I told him exactly how much he had hurt me. Sometimes, I imagined him apologizing and I imagined myself feeling better but standing there, listening to his fear, I felt nothing resembling satisfaction.Only a strange, hollow quiet. “Tell me what you want,” he said. There it was. The question I had waited years to hear. I looked at the city, at the thousands of illuminated windows and the lives continuing behind them. Somewhere out there, people were falling in love, making promises, and believing that the people closest to them would keep those promises.I used to be one of them. “I wanted a future,” I said softly. “You decided what it was worth.” “Noelle—” “You made your decision. I’m making mine.” “Is this because I left you?” I smiled. He still didn’t understand. “This isn’t about you leaving me.” “Then what is it about?” I looked down at the ring on my right hand, the one I had bought myself years after returning the one he gave me. It was beautiful, expensive and entirely mine. “It’s about what you believed you could take from me and still get away with.” He said my name again, but I ended the call before he could finish. For several seconds, I stood motionless. Then I opened the message thread and blocked the number. It should have felt like freedom. Instead, I remembered another voice. Another desperate conversation. Another person asking me to do the right thing while I stood frozen between what I knew was right and what I was afraid to lose.My grip tightened around the phone. There were things I had done to survive that I could explain, there were things I had done that I could defend and there were things I had buried so deeply that even revenge couldn’t keep them quiet forever. The door behind me opened. “Everything is ready,” my assistant said. “The announcement goes out in twenty minutes.” I nodded. “Anything else?” She hesitated. “Mr. Belmont called. He wants to know whether you’re still attending tomorrow’s meeting.” For the first time that evening, something shifted inside me. Dominic Belmont. Of course he wanted to know. Tomorrow, I would sit across from a man who had spent the past several weeks looking at me as though he suspected there was a person beneath the reputation. A man who challenged me, irritated me and had the infuriating habit of asking questions I didn’t want to answer.A man who had no idea what I was capable of. “Tell him I’ll be there,” I said. “And the announcement?” I glanced at the city one last time. “Send it.” My assistant left. The room fell silent. By morning, the man who had destroyed my future would begin losing his own. I had spent years preparing for that moment. I had mistaken the anticipation for healing, the plan for purpose, and the certainty of victory for peace.I was about to learn how wrong I had been because revenge had a way of opening doors you had spent years trying to keep shut and mine was about to reveal the one truth I had never been prepared to face: The man who betrayed me was not the only person who had helped destroy my life. My family had been there, too. And long before I learned how to make people pay for what they had done to me, I had already learned how to live with what I had done to someone else.
