Shayla POV The mating ball. The only thing every female has been talking about for the past month. You would think I'd be excited too, but the person who the ball was for was not of my interest. Alpha King Titus. I only met him one time, when I was 16, I'm 20 now, but that one time was enough for me to know what he was. A cold, arrogant ass. So, you're probably wondering why everyone is excited for the mating ball of a cold, arrogant ass. Well, he's the Alpha King. The King of all Werewolves. So, they most likely want him for his money and power. As for me, I just hope the moon goddess doesn't make him my mate. I was brought out of my thoughts by my brother and the Alpha of the Dark Woods Pack, Darien, when he spoke. "Shayla, I know you don't want to go to this ball but all she-wolves are required to be there." Ugh. This again. My brother can't leave this alone. One she wolf out of hundreds wouldn't make a difference. Why couldn't he just let it go! "Can't we just pretend I'm dead, he won't even notice. It's not like I'm his mate or anything." I answered. "Shayla, even if your chance of being his mate is like 1 in a million, you're still going." Wow. He literally just admitted the minuscule chance that I was going to be Alpha Titus mate and he still wants me to go. I was going to argue but he gave me a look that said "dare me" so I just gave in. Stupid Alpha males. "Fine. I'll go to the stupid mating ball. Happy now?" "Very. Now let's go for dinner," He replied. The dinner table was very quiet. Our parents weren't alive anymore so it consisted of me, my brother, his Beta and best friend Lucas, and his Gamma Jasper. My brother and Lucas talked while Jasper and I ate in silence. After dinner, I went to do the thing I dreaded the most. Preparing for the mating ball. I packed all my favorite things because, even though it was really small, there was still a chance I could be the Alpha King's mate. . . . Titus POV Being Alpha is hard. Being a mateless Alpha is even harder. It's the worst thing ever. 22 and mateless. You feel a void that can't be filled. I try to pretend being mateless doesn't affect me but most saw through the façade. That was why I decided to hold a mating ball. My wolf was getting restless and my pack needed a Luna. I hope my mate would be loyal, submissive and fertile. Since the mating ball was tomorrow, I figured that I might as well go check the progress downstairs. As soon as I got to the ball room, my Beta and only friend, Toran, stopped barking out orders to the omegas that were decorating the place and everyone bowed their heads. "Alpha," they said. I nodded my head curtly in acknowledgement and walked up to Toran. "How are the preparations going?" "Good. Everything is ready for the ball. I really hope you find your mate tomorrow." He answered. "Thanks, and I hope you also find your mate soon." Toran was also mateless and hoped to find his mate. I really hope he finds his mate. He deserves it. "Thanks for helping with this."
