Rent Control & Other Urban Myths Part 1
On This Bright And Sunny Day Heather And Michael Had An Idea. “honey what if i got a job these bills are getting a little out of control” Micheal looked at Heather a little confused. “why would you want to get a job?” I think that it wouldn’t be such a bad idea and plus we really could use the money. Micheal did not like that idea at all. Heather knows and understands Micheal has an extreme temper. “I just thought maybe you could use the help and listen if we don’t do something soon we’re going to lose our beautiful home i love it here” Heather said. Micheal gets up out of his chair, doesn’t say anything and walks away. Heather doesn’t chase after him and lets him cool off for a second. She picks up her phone and calls her mom hoping she could help with this month on the bills. Heather’s phone rings… A second later “Hey sweetie how are you” Heather sighs “Hi mom I’m hanging in there. She takes a big breathe in and exhales. I really don’t want to ask but me and Micheal are running out of options here and i just feel like if i don’t pay this part of the month for the house we’re going to get kicked out. Heather’s mom says okay listen honey I’m going to help out this last time but you really need to get a job. Heather says to her mom Micheal doesn’t want me to and he won’t tell me why.” Heather and her mom have an hour conversation over the phone. The entire day Heather gives Micheal some space until later on that evening. Heather sits down on the couch “some Chinese takeout sounds good” Micheal walks out of the room “Heather gets up hey babe can we talk? Micheal looks over at her. What did you do this time? Umm slow your role. I didn't do anything but…I talked to my mom and she’s going to help us with this month's payment,” Micheal doesn’t like the sound of that" I didn't need you to do that. I’m getting a little side job with my buddy” Heather stands up “What? Why would you do that? We’re never going to see each other now. Micheal grabs Heather’s hand and has a seat on the couch” Heather gives Micheal that serious look. “It’s nothing like that, it's a painting side that my buddy works for. He said he could squeeze me in a couple days a week. That shouldn’t be a problem right?” Heather holds her hand over her face feeling the guilt she has balled up in her stomach. The feeling was terrible. “What did I just do? I should’ve trusted him before jumping to conclusions. The pain in the inside is like that time I got punched in the stomach by that girl in high school. Man that chic hated everyone she was like the queen of Regina George but worse.” Micheal stops talking and walks into the bedroom to get settled in for the night before he goes to take a relaxing hot shower. Meanwhile Micheal is in the shower, Heather storms in the bathroom “I’m sorry but not” speaking in a low tone of voice before wanting to take Micheal’s head off. “But WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME, HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND MICHEAL ANDERSON” Micheal’s eyes open wide. “I just think if we could sell the BMW we could use that to pay off the house, at least most of it. But before you go and rip my head off, I would like to say we don’t have to put all of it down, we could put the rest in our savings” Heather had no idea Micheal had a savings account. “Wait you have a savings” Micheal covers his face thinking about what he just said. “No, go ahead tell me about this little savings you have and not only that you have been keeping from me this entire time.” Micheal peeps his head out of the shower. “I’ve had it before I turned 18 years old, my mom always had me doing little side jobs when I was growing up.” Heather feels incredibly bad for making a scene that really didn’t need to be made. She looks up at Micheal “I’m sorry for all this, i know you worked very hard on this and I won’t mention it again.” Micheal finishes up his shower, puts on his comfy clothes and makes his way into the living room to watch the football game he’s been sparked up to see all day.
