The bright light from the moon broke through the thin curtains, even though it was still dark. I was suddenly wide awake and pulled towards its glow. I tossed and turned in the bed and then gave up. I did not know what to do with myself now that I was awake. I didn't hear any noise coming from the other room, so I'm fairly certain Kaleb is still asleep. Of course, he is, I thought to myself, it’s the middle of the night or early morning.
I climbed out of bed, and my white nightgown fell to my feet. I usually prefer shorts but when I saw this in the drawer, I couldn't help myself. I loved the way the smooth fabric clung to my body, on the back was only lace. I felt very sexy.
I looked outside before opening my double doors and stepping out onto the deck. I wrapped my arms around my body as the cold wind blew my hair. I shivered slightly, rubbing my arms for warmth. My eyes were drawn to the lake below. The glow of the moon reflecting off the water was the most beautiful thing I had seen in a long time. Part of me wanted to shift and run, but I did not know the pack's territory well enough to run on my own. Then there was the fact that Kaleb had not given me permission to do so. It was a little chilly, but at least I could feel it. It seemed like such a long time since I could genuinely feel the cold. Walking over to the swing, I stretched out my legs across the whole bench. A slight breeze had me reaching for the light throw that lay on the back of the swing. After covering my legs, I let the rocking motion of the swing soothe me.
I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew Alpha Kaleb's touched my arm and I bolted up almost falling off the swing. He caught me. “Careful, Luna, I don't want to explain to the whole pack how the future Luna broke her neck on my swing,” he smiled.
“Sorry, Kaleb,” I blushed.
“No need to apologize. I startled you, but since you're up would you like to go for a run with Stone, Lucky, Sophia, and myself?” He looked really cute with his pleading eyes.
“Cute asking me, when we both know you could have demanded,” I chuckled. Then stood up; stretching my arms up, “It would be my pleasure, Alpha. Are Sarah and Sasha here for the twins?” I asked, hoping it was a yes.
“Indeed,” he replied with a smile. “Come,” he led me across the deck to a set of stairs I had not realized before. We descended the stairs. I smiled, seeing that Stone was already here waiting.
“Luna, love the outfit,” Stone's voice laughed.
I looked down, remembering what I was wearing. My face reddened deeply. I looked at Kaleb who was trying to stifle a laugh, and I ran behind the nearest tree, stripped, shifted before coming back and sitting at Kaleb's feet with my head bowed down. Kaleb gently put his hand on the top of my head.
“Oh, is our Luna a little shy?” Stone teased.
Kaleb moved quickly, leaving my side and grabbed him by the throat and shouted, “Enough now! Shift to run or get lost!” he growled.
I mind linked him, “It’s okay, Alpha, I’m the one who should have known better then appear before him dressed that way.”
After releasing him, Stone ran off towards the woods. Kaleb smiled down at my wolf running his hand down my coat, “My brother deserved what he got. Your wolf is very beautiful by the way.” Then he took off in the direction Stone went.
Two large black wolves came out from the tree approaching me and I backed up cautiously to my backside was up against the house. I was on high alert, crouched down, ears back. I heard Kaleb voice over mind link, “Your safe, Vivian, I didn’t think of the fact you have never seen us in wolf form I apologize. It’s just Stone and I.”
I dropped my head and shook it, standing upright cautiously. I knew I needed to recognize the Alpha first. I was unsure who was who. They both sat about ten feet from me and waited. I could follow his scent, but I felt like I should be able to recognize him without that. I looked carefully. Thank goodness for eyes, I do not know what I would have done if they had been twins. I could tell the Stone’s cold eyes and turned to the other wolf. I walked up to him and placed my head under his. His scent filled my nose, and I rubbed my head on his neck. He put his head to rest on my neck before mind linking me, “Well done, Vivian.” I knew that I had found my Alpha’s wolf, and I accepted him as such, and he did the same for me. My wolf seemed pleased by him.
Rustling in the bushes, produced two more wolves, causing me to jump, hitting the Alpha in his jaw with my head. I was so embarrassed. If I were in human form, I would be so red. Kaleb just rested his head back on my head in a comforting, reassuring way. I heard a voice in my head, “Vivian, calm down before you give your poor wolf an ulcer from all your jumpiness,” Sophia playfully ordered.
“I am relaxed, Sofia,” I laughed over mind linked.
“Sure, after you headbutted my brother,” she laughed, “that was priceless by the way. You don’t need to worry about any other wolves when you have Kaleb at your side.”
She was not wrong. Kaleb was a large powerful wolf. I could sense it, and I knew without a doubt I was perfectly safe with him.
“You should have seen me trying to figure him out from Stone,” I joked with her.
“It’s the eyes,” Sophia joked. “His dark eyes give him away every time.”
Sophia was a black wolf as well, but smaller like me. She had white paws. When I looked at Lucky, though I was shocked. Lucky was nothing like I would have expected. His coloring had a red tint to it, that made him look more like a large fox. It was very odd coloring for a wolf, and I just could not help but stare at him.
“Wondering how he stays hidden?” pops Stones' voice in my head evidently amused.
“Yes, how did you know?” I asked.
“It's what everyone asks when they see him for the first time. It's why he's called Lucky,” Stone said nonchalantly.
So Lucky is not his name either. These boys and their nicknames, I thought to myself.
“If you are all done gawking over Lucky’s coat, it’s time to run.” Kaleb broke up all the conversations. With that, Stone took off first, and the Alpha nudged me to follow. I did, and quickly took off after Stone. He bolted through the tree effortlessly. I had to run hard to keep up with Stone. He did not make it easy on me, even though it was my first run in these pack lands. I felt like he was intentionally trying to lose me. I stayed on his tail, and Alpha Kaleb stayed on my six the whole time. I stopped dead in my tracks at that realization. Zander, oh I forgotten him.
Alpha Kaleb came up on my side and bumped into me, friendly rubbing against my side, “Are you okay?” he mind linked me.
“Yes,” I simply answered and started to run again.
“Vivian, stop,” came an Alpha order that I could not ignore. My wolf whimpered as she sat down instantly and waited for him to approach. “Vivian, please tell me what happened?” he coaxed.
“Kaleb, please just leave it alone. I don’t want to talk about it right now, please just let me run,” I pleaded.
“As you wish, Stone went right about a hundred feet then ventured down the hill,” he told me.
I did not respond, just took off after Stone. Before I knew it, we were back at Alpha’s mansion. Now that I knew about the stairs, I raced up them, bolted in my room, and shifted quickly.
