Chapter 14 The underground atmosphere veiled the passing of time. There was no way to know just how long one sped beneath the earthy surface. The muddy walls were so dark they were almost non-existent and seemed never-ending, going on and on without a light at the end of the tunnel. The rat was quick and strong. Her muscles worked hard under the weight of the faeries and human, but she seemed to be used to that sort of travel. Seven stops were made underground, three of them being what Nahtaia assumed were night-long rests. The idea of traveling for so long with no sunlight created a sense of claustrophobia within her, so she spent much of the ride trying to keep her eyes downcast.
