New Delhi, IndiaIn stark contrast with the fear and terror that had descended on the rest of the world, the ordinary people of Delhi and India celebrated the victory over their enemy. Since early in the morning, the main Indian TV networks and radio stations continually played a pre-recorded announcement by the Indian Prime Minister rejoicing in their hour of triumph. To the outside world that could not imagine the depth of India’s hatred towards its neighbour, the sight of such jubilation in the streets made a macabre spectacle.
Krishna Banerjee projected an imposing figure unlike some of the frail-looking Indian leaders of the past. Six feet tall with fair skin except for the dark patches below his eyes, he was statesmanlike and elegant in his churidhar kurta,
