The building did have a lift, but it was one of the very old fashioned variety with a sliding metal grille that pulled across the front before it would move. As he considered his options, he had a stroke of good fortune when one of the guards decided to leave the bureau. He stood up laughing, clapped his friend on the back, and marched off towards a door leading away from the hallway. The remaining guard, chuckling, carried on watching the television with his back to Luke. Only the top of his head was visible above the counter. Downstairs, Luke had replaced his sandals with training shoes. If the guard stayed in his present position, he knew he could get past unseen so it was just a question of doing it quietly.
