Everyone in Harold Smith's circle knew he had a loyal shadow. That was me.

I would brave the rain to deliver condoms while he was with other women. I would kneel and beg for forgiveness on his behalf after he accidentally hit someone. I would willingly serve as a blood bank to save his childhood sweetheart.

Everyone teased me, saying, "How can you be so in love with Harold?"

But no one knew that the one I had loved all along was actually my sister, who had died ten years ago.

Chapter 1 The Loyal Shadow
Chapter 1 The Loyal Shadow When I rushed into the bar's private room through the pouring rain, I barely opened the door before I heard the sound of men bursting into laughter. "Holy sh*t, she really came!" "Only Miss Watson would bring condoms in this downpour so her man can screw someone else." "Seriously, Miss Watson? You think dressing like that's gonna make Harold want to screw you?" The insults kept coming, but I didn't flinch—just frowned and stayed silent. It wasn't until the normal lights came on that I noticed Harold, the center of attention, had his head buried in a woman's neck, kissing her and trailing down to her lips. The soft sounds of his kisses were especially pronounced in the quiet room. I didn't plan on staying a second longer. I held it out. "This is what you wanted.” Harold froze, then looked up with a stormy face—clearly pissed I'd ruined the mood. Luckily, the woman in his arms was still craving attention and pulled him back in. I slipped away before he could turn on me. Maybe it was the rain—my head felt foggy. Having completed my task, I headed for the door, every step heavier than the last. Suddenly, a car appeared out of nowhere, barreling straight toward me. Even though the driver slammed on the brakes at the last moment, I was still knocked to the ground. Pain shot through my body as if my insides were being torn apart. Somehow, I heard Harold's anxious voice calling, "Sarah!" I turned and saw Harold rushing over. In that instant, he felt like the only thing keeping me from slipping away. But as he grabbed my outstretched hand, his words only left me in despair. "Wendy's septicemia has flared up again! Go with me to the hospital for a transfusion!" All the way there, Harold drove like a madman, never once checking if I was okay. At the hospital, he didn't spare me a glance—just dragged me in and pinned me down for the blood draw. All that effort—for the girl he claimed to love, but could never be with. After drawing bag after bag, the nurse glanced at my pale face and couldn't help but warn, "Miss Watson, you can't take any more. You need treatment for your injuries." I was about to speak up when Harold cut me off, "Don't worry. Just make sure she doesn't die. Saving Wendy is the priority right now." With him saying that, I could only force a smile, "I'm fine. I can handle this." The nurse had no choice but to continue, and once she was done, Harold finally withdrew his hand. I felt as if my blood had been drained from my body. When I tried to stand, I swayed and took a few unsteady steps before I could steady myself. I wanted Harold to call someone to check on me. I couldn't afford to die. But I never got the chance. As soon as the doctor came out of the room, he called, "Mr. Smith, the patient is awake.” Almost the moment Harold dashed into the room, I collapsed, unable to hold on any longer. If he'd spared even a second to look at me, he might've caught me. But he wouldn't. He cared for all the women around him, unable to control his love for his childhood sweetheart. Only with me, who had come to him willingly, did he remain forever aloof.
