A Normal Day
Jasmin’s POV Today is a great day to walk to the beach. I put on my cute red swimsuit, wrapped my waste in a cover, and packed a bag for Precious and I. Precious is my half Chocolate Lab half Pitbull dog. She was spinning circles in anticipation with her leash in her mouth. Whenever I went to the beach, I took her along. She loved seeing all the people and other dogs. Her excessive energy was sometimes a bit much, but she never misbehaved. Out the door we went. I lived in an apartment that had been converted from an old motel. Each apartment was at least two motel rooms and the largest was three. The building had a pool. However, the pump was broken again. So down the stairs, past the vacant pool, and out the security gate we went. Precious wiggled her whole body the few blocks to the beach. I couldn’t help but smile at her excitement. The beach was less crowded than usual, especially for the middle of the day. Even on weekdays, the beach is often bustling. I imagine most people are at work. Precious began digging through my bag as soon as it hit the sand. Finding her ball, she began jumping up and down in circles before stopping in front of me and bowing playfully. I took the ball, she hopped back and perked up in anticipation. I tossed it towards the water, and she bounded in. Sprinting back, with a happy expression, she put the ball in my hand. Eventually I joined in the water. A few more dogs and people joined us. Waves crashed against us and sometimes a dog would get rolled, jump out and hop its way back in. After about an hour of playing and laughing, it was time to go home. I was starving and even though she didn’t show it, Precious was tired. I trudged through the water back onto the beach. Precious bounding playfully behind me. I shook the sand from my towel and placed it in my bag. As we started back a strange yellow bubble seemed to envelop us. It looked like it was made up of yellow electricity. I had no idea what to do. Precious panicked and slammed into my leg, knocking me down. It was not sand I fell on but thick grass. When I stood up, I realized we were nowhere near the beach, or anywhere I recognized for that matter. Precious was still in a panic and was sniffing heavily around us. I looked around hoping for anything recognizable. There was what appeared to be a forest behind me and a large empty field in front of me. To my right were more trees that seemed to lead to a clearing and a large wall in the distance. From there came the sounds of hooves making their way towards us. “What the fu**?” I blurted out as seven men came riding into view. I seemed to have landed in a fantasy world out of a fairy tale or this was an elaborate renaissance fair. All but one of the men was dressed in armor from the shoulders down. The seventh was wearing a hooded robe and caring a staff just like a mage straight out of the movies. One of the armored men had shiny polished looking armor with a long cape which flowed across the back of his horse. A cool breeze hit my wet body. I shivered a little. One of the armored men hopped down from his horse and began to approach me. He towered over me. Precious began growly softly and lowered her head. I had never seen her do that to anyone before. I placed my hand on her head. When he got close enough for her, she lunged forward snapping at him. He stopped and she maintained her position between us. “This is the sixth?” The man snorted eyeing me up and down. He turned to look at the mage looking guy who softly nodded and then smiled at the guy in shiny armor who had also turned to him. “SHe looks like a harlot.” He continued and began to turn away. “Excuse you a**hole?!” I spouted back. He turned his head back and raised an eyebrow. The man in shiny armor spoke up. “That’s enough. Leave her be.” He looked at me. “My apologies. Please come with us and we’ll explain everything.” Not having anywhere else to go, I reached down and pet Precious. She calmed down a bit, but the hair on her back was still a little on end. She gave me a look waiting for approval. “Come on Precious.” She hesitated and walked with me, still being wary of the a**hole. He walked over to his horse, grabbed the reins and proceeded to walk with us. I couldn’t figure out if it was intended to be polite gesture. I assumed not since he was so rude. I gave him a weird look as we slowly made our way around the tree line. When we came around the tree line, I could finally see the wall clearly. We were closer than I thought. It was massive. There were two open large gates and a set of guards waiting for us. The gates led to a large city. It had a modern medieval feel to it. It looked like renaissance modernly updated homes and businesses. The doors looked similar to my neighborhood with primitive locks. The shops had nice glass windows with writing painted on them. I could not read the words. Again, a cool breeze hit my cold wet body. I shivered again as I looked at the clothing of the people. Everyone wore vibrant colors that covered most of their bodies. Because of the current weather, that made sense. I reached into my bag and pulled my wrap first and secured it to my waste. Then I wrapped my towel around my shoulders. I could feel someone's eyes burning a hole in the back of me. I looked to see the rude guy staring at me as we continued down the street. “What?” I asked. “Finally feeling ashamed?” “No, it’s cold and I am soaking wet.” I snapped back. He scoffed, “Why are you soaked?” He has while speaking softly and looking away. He actually seemed a little concerned. I gave him a weird look, “I was at the beach.” He returned the same weird expression. “Did you go in the water?” “Yes." I said dragging it out. What a stupid question. “It wasn’t freezing.” He said, eyeing me curiously. “Well, it’s a little cold, but that’s kind of the point. Where I come from it is very hot right now. Speaking of which, is anyone going to tell me where we are?” It was my turn to eye him curiously. “I will let Prince Egan tell you.” He looked forward again and slightly picked up his pace. With his long strides he was quickly ahead of me. I was super confused about everything. I looked down at Precious who was wagging her tail and trying to greet people who came close. They would jump back and mutter something that I could not understand. It seemed like English was not the primary language here. I’d pull her leash a bit and she’d come back and nudge me with her big head. After some time, we finally reached our destination. It was a large estate with a huge mansion the size of a small castle. It seemed warm and inviting. Upon reaching the house several people came to escort the horse after everyone dismounted. I noticed them bowing to the jerk, Mr. Shiny and Mr. Mage, as we walked inside. Mr. Shiny looked at me with concern. “Your lips have turned purple. Let's get you a proper set of clothes. Then we’ll introduce you to everyone. “ “Everyone?” I said shivering. “Mhm. We will explain. Clothes first.” He put his arm around me and ushered me to another man. The man approached us quickly and Mr. Shiny said something I could not understand. The man bowed and then escorted me up an elegant staircase that broke off into threes. A glass roof covered the stairs. We took the staircase on the left and then left again. We entered a large yet simple room. The oversized bed was draped elegantly. I let go of Precious and she made herself comfy. The oversized fireplace had a regular sized fire. He walked over to a closet, opened it and finally spoke. “Clothes are here. When comfortable, I will be waiting at the top of the stairs.” He said smoothly, then closed the door to the room, bowing slightly.
