But instead, it was a familiar face—Francesca, a woman who had worked with her at the café for years. She was a friendly presence, someone who had always been there to share a laugh or a comforting word during the long shifts.

"Isabella," Francesca said, her voice low and concerned as she approached. "You’ve been looking off lately. Is everything okay?"

Isabella forced a smile, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I’m fine. Just... a lot on my mind."

Francesca raised an eyebrow, sensing the lie. "You sure about that? You’ve been working long hours, and you’ve been distant. Something’s wrong, I can tell."

Isabella hesitated. She couldn’t tell Francesca the truth. She couldn't tell anyone anything.
