Chapter 10: The Choice Lorenzo’s smile never wavered, but there was something dark behind his eyes, something that made Isabella’s blood run cold. She had asked the question, but now, hearing him say nothing in response, she felt as though she were standing on the edge of a cliff, the ground crumbling beneath her feet. "You think you have a choice?" Lorenzo finally said, his voice calm but heavy with meaning. "You don’t, Isabella. The moment you walked into this hotel, the moment you stepped into my world, you made a choice without even realizing it. You’re connected to me now. Whether you like it or not." Her mind raced, panic setting in. There had to be another way, some way to escape, but the truth hit her like a ton of bricks: She was already in too deep. The weight of his words crushed any illusion of freedom she had left. He was right. She had walked into this meeting with no idea of the consequences. "I’m not asking you to love me, Isabella," Lorenzo continued, his voice soft but edged with something darker. "I’m asking you to trust me—to do what’s necessary for both our sakes. If you help me, I promise there will be no harm to you or anyone you care about." It felt like a lie. There was no real promise behind his words, only the cold, undeniable truth that Lorenzo’s world didn’t offer many choices. She could help him, or she could refuse and watch as the consequences unraveled everything she knew. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides as she tried to find her voice. "And if I refuse?" she asked again, her tone sharper this time, desperate for some shred of control. Lorenzo’s gaze hardened, his smile slipping just slightly. "Refusing isn’t really an option, Isabella. I don’t think you want to see what happens if you do." He leaned forward, his voice lowering to a near whisper. "I’m giving you a choice—help me, and I will protect you. But defy me, and you will regret it. No one crosses me without paying the price." His words hung in the air like a heavy, suffocating fog, and Isabella felt the full weight of his power pressing down on her chest. There was no escape from this. No way out. Her mind raced, the fear and anger threatening to swallow her whole. This was her family’s mess. It had always been a shadow hanging over her life, but now it was a reality she couldn’t avoid. Lorenzo stood up slowly, his eyes never leaving hers. "I’ll give you time to think about it, but don’t take too long. My patience is running thin." Isabella watched as he turned toward the window again, the city lights casting long shadows across his figure. For a moment, she wondered if he even cared about the decision he was forcing upon her. It didn’t matter. To him, she was just another piece of the game. As the silence stretched between them, Isabella knew one thing for certain—she couldn’t walk away from this. Not without consequences. And in Lorenzo’s world, consequences weren’t something you could easily outrun. She had no choice but to play along. "I’ll do it," she finally said, her voice steady but hollow. "I’ll help you." Lorenzo turned back to her, his eyes gleaming with a satisfaction that made her skin crawl. "Good. I knew you’d come around." The room felt colder now, as if the final decision had sealed her fate. She had agreed to enter his world, to follow the path he set before her, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that it was a mistake she’d never be able to undo. "Remember, Isabella," Lorenzo said as he walked toward the door, "you belong to me now. Don’t forget that." And with that, he was gone, leaving her alone with the weight of her decision—and the creeping realization that there was no turning back.
