…
I stare at my dad with nothing but pain within my heart as I try to convince myself that I didn’t just hear the words leave his mouth.
Nadia: What do you mean the festival isn’t happening this year!? It’s annual! It’s suppose to happen every year!
Mom: There isn’t enough funding for the town to host it. We’ve been in debt since you’ve left Nadia.
I stare at my mom in shock as I slowly sat back down on the couch, processing this revelation.
Nadia: So, the festival isn’t happening because we don’t have the funds for it?
Dad: I’m afraid so.
Nadia: So what if I fund it? What if I find the funds to keep the festival alive? You guys have to at least experience the festival one last time before you move.
My parents share a look I know all too well, a look that says that my mind is bright but might not really be in its right state.
I sigh and leave the house as I walked around my neighborhood for one of the last times. Taking in every street corner, every place I spent my time laughing with all my old friends.
I turn the corner back to my house as I was about to walk on my porch and I see someone there in a semi formal suit as I tilt my head to get a better look.
Nadia: Hello? Do I know you?
The guy turned around and I widened my eyes to see none other than William with the face I all to much remembered, and still love.
Nadia: Will?
William: Nadia?
His face brightens up as he walked down the stairs and place his hands in his coat.
William: well I be dammed. Haven’t seen you since you moved away for work, how you’ve been?
Nadia: Well, the festival isn’t happening this year so, I’m trying to think of a way to fund the entire thing and save the town’s tradition this year.
William stared at me with a sad face, a slight frown.
William: I heard about the financial situation. It sucks man. The whole town is down in the dumps about it, no one is the same this year.
I nod along as I walked up the stairs to enter my house.
Nadia: Well, It’s good to see you again Addams.
William: Good to see you again Creed. I mean it, you’ll find a way to save the town or at least try, you always do.
I smile as I opened my door and went back inside my house.
William watched me go inside as he waves until I disappear and his hand drop as he picks up his phone and makes a simple call.
William: Hello? Jerry? Yeah I got a favor to ask. No I know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah just get the men together and hold a meeting until I get there. Yeah. Alright bye.
He hangs the phone up and stares at my door with a look of calculation and determination.
