Sophie's POV
When Rugal pulled away from me I was surprised. I could scent his arousal and the feel of his hands on my body had set me on fire. The gentle kiss while my other mate touched me made me want to never leave this place. The sudden break in contact made me whimper hard and I couldn't help but cry out as they both pulled away. Did I do something wrong to make them not want me? They both said they wanted to make sure that I got home safe, but it wasn't even that late. I couldn't help but feel a little rejected.
Leyla walked me down to the bus stop and stood with me, but Rugal went back to his office after he gave me his cell phone number, only giving me a small hug. My wolf whimpered inside, wondering what we did to make our Alpha male dislike us. Maybe he was worrying about the age difference or maybe we had pushed too far. Whatever we had done, it hurt so bad.
Leyla made sure to maintain contact with my hand until the bus came, making me promise to call her when I get to my building. At least one of my alphas seemed to want me around, but that still didn't make the sting of Rugal's brusque manner hurt any less. I hoped that I could fix whatever the issue was, make him see me as the great mate that I could be.
The bus ride was pretty calm, I wasn't too far away from downtown, so it only took about 20 minutes. Seattle buses aren't the cleanest, but the driver always lets unmated omegas sit near the front so he can keep an eye on us. Drunks and Alphas that would normally harass us don't exactly get a chance to get close. Most of the drivers are betas by designation as well, able to break up fights but not going to harass an Omega themselves. It meant that I had time to think and start to process the day.
There was another omega on the bus, sitting beside me who seemed to have had a long day as well. She was happily bouncing in her seat to something on her phone and I could see the stress of the day melting off her shoulders minute by minute. A number of tattoos decorated her wrists and seemed to disappear under the her baggy sleeves. A riot of braids framed her face and her deep black eyes held a quiet joy I didn't quite understand. I had been staring for at least 30 seconds when she took her headphones off and introduced herself.
"Hi, I'm Hannah! You take this bus often? I just got a new job down by Pike's Place Market and I don't know anyone on my commute route yet!" She was so bubbly and it shocked me at first.
"Sophie..." I trailed off not knowing what to say, how did I make friends with someone so happy and bright. "I just started working at one of the buildings on 4th street as a fitness instructor. I think I get out a bit before this normally though, today was my first day as well."
Hannah's face fell a little, but then lit up as she seemed to come to a conclusion. "Hey! If you work that close to me maybe we can hang out after lunch sometimes or something! Give me your number and I'll text you!" The whirlwind of emotion that was Hannah shoved her phone at me, the add contact field already pulled up and started prattling away about new friends as I pressed in my information.
I knew that most Omegas were happy and bubbly, but that's not really a part of me that I felt comfortable with yet. Hannah seemed to know what she was doing though, and I really could use some new friends. Maybe she could pull me out of my shell and introduce me to the world at large.
I was surprised when she got off at the same stop as I did, but she walked the other way, so she didn't live in the Omega house.
"STAY SAFE!" She yelled from across the stress as she headed towards her home, before putting her headphones back on.
I only had a few blocks to walk from the bus, but I noticed that there was a strange Alpha behind me, making me speed up. When I did it seemed like they sped up as well, they steps echoing louder in my brain. I tried to keep calm and rational, but the steps just kept coming. After a block the Alphas was almost caught up to me and I was walking very fast.
After another block they were maybe a foot behind me, gaining steadily, obviously following me. I could barely contain my panic and knew I needed to get away. It was just late enough that the streets were somewhat empty, everyone either home or in one of the trendier neighborhoods enjoying the night dining and entertainment options. If this Alpha caught me it wasn't likely that help would arrive before I was claimed against my will.
I broke into a run, glad that I wore my trainers to work and that I was in good shape. I was only a block and a half from the gate and made it in just a few moments, slamming my key card against the gate and stepping in to the safety of the Omega home. The gate slammed in the face of the Alpha, his lips curling into a snarl as I shrunk against the wall. I had made it, I was safe, and now the Alpha would be on the cameras of the house, putting the entire community on alert to his presence.
I fled up to my apartment, unlocking the door and running straight to the toilet. Everything I had eaten that day came up in a rush as I tried not to sob. I dimly realized that I hadn't completely locked the door, but I was sure that Freya wouldn't be able to get out. I rinsed my mouth and huddled up against my tub, arms wrapped around my legs, wondering how my life got turned so upside down.
This morning I was just another omega looking for her mate, now I had two, one who didn't really seem to want me, and I had been chased by a third. My entire life had changed, everything I knew had been threatened, and I didn't even know how my next week would go.
Leyla and Rugal or even just one of them could claim me and make me uproot my life. They could make me stop working, move me out of my apartment, require me to stay in their home. As much as I had wanted to find my mate, now that I had I was scared. I always assumed it would be someone in the same generation, someone who would just be figuring themselves out too. While I found the maturity of my mates somewhat sexy, I was a little worried about how that would make them view me.
I had just finished washing my face when I heard a light knock on my door. I crept forward, worried that the Alpha had found a way in, but let out a sigh of relief when it was just Allison, another girl from my floor. She had welcomed me to the building when I moved in and seemed to like making friends.
I opened the door to find her in cute fluffy pajamas, her hair piled on top of her head with a terrycloth headband around her forehead. She had another girl with her I hadn't met and was clutching a small bag and a pillow tightly.
"Hey Sophie, I'm Allison, I don't know if you remember, and this is Tia. We're going to have a girl's night and I just saw you get home. You wanna join? Tia has ice cream and a huge playlist of movies!"
While her invitation took me by surprise, it wasn't unwelcome.
"Uhm yeah, let me get changed. Pajamas okay? Do I need to bring anything?"
"Pajamas are fine! Just a pillow if you want to stretch out on the floor, and a headband. We are doing face masks, I got a new type in the mail today!" She shook the bag in her hands excitedly as she said that.
"Okay, give me five minutes."
Tia was the one who spoke this time. "Okay, apartment 8 on the next floor up, see you then!"
As they walked away, I rushed inside to pick out a pajama set. Choosing my favorite Victoria Secrets Pink boyfriend pant and tanktop set in a light blue and grabbing one of the big throw pillows from my bed. Maybe a girl's night was just the thing I needed.
