“Zoe, it’s a pleasure to see you again.” Eric smiled.
Zoe took two steps forward and slapped him across the face.
“Come now,” Eric said, “you can’t possibly hate me more than you loathe anyone else in the world.”
She slapped him again.
“What did you do to her?” Devon asked.
“None of your damn business.” Zoe rounded on Devon.
“Okay.” Devon nodded, paying for moving his head with a stumbling wobble. “I don’t doubt you have every right to slap him.”
“I’m looking for books.” Eric pulled Zoe’s focus back to him.
“I’ll kill you before I let you near my books,” Zoe said.
“I don’t blame you,” Eric said. “After what the Ladies did to you, I don’t think a person with any empathy would speak ill of you for hoarding your collection away from the world.”
