A WORLD WITHOUT WATER
A world without water
The year was 3024. Earth, once abundant with rivers, oceans, and lakes, had become a lifeless shell of its former self. The planet was parched, its once thriving ecosystems reduced to dry, cracked earth. Water had become the most precious commodity on the planet, more valuable than gold, diamonds, or any other resource. People fought, killed, and died for the smallest drop of it. The oceans were now nothing more than a distant memory. Desperation permeated the air as the survivors of this dying world struggled to exist.
Aegen, a tall, weathered man with piercing eyes and a body built from years of surviving in the harsh wasteland, had been on the hunt for water for as long as he could remember. He was no ordinary man; he was a warrior, driven by a single, unrelenting mission—to find the last source of water and free the planet from the grip of those who hoarded it.
Aegen didn’t travel alone. He had three companions—each one vital to his quest.
**Leya**, a fierce and brilliant strategist, was the heart of their group. Her sharp mind and quick thinking had saved them more times than Aegen could count. She was small but powerful, her raven-black hair often tied back in a braid to keep it out of her face as she meticulously mapped their journey through the wastelands. Her eyes burned with the desire to reclaim what was rightfully theirs, and she had a personal stake in this war for water: her family had died from dehydration years ago, taken by the very syndicate they were fighting against.
**Scott**, tall and broad-shouldered, was the muscle of the group. His hands were calloused from years of working in the industrial sectors before the collapse, and his dark brown eyes were filled with the weight of the world. He was a man of few words, but his loyalty to Aegen and the others was unwavering. He had seen too many friends die from the lack of water, and now, there was only one thing that mattered: revenge against the Hydro Vultures, the syndicate that controlled the world’s water supply.
Finally, there was **Becks**, a former scientist and tech genius. With his scruffy beard and glasses that constantly slid down his nose, Becks was the one who understood how the world had fallen apart and how they might be able to fix it. He had discovered something that could change everything: the water that the Hydro Vultures were hoarding wasn’t even from this universe. They had somehow opened a portal to another realm, one where water flowed freely. The water that should be sustaining the Earth was being siphoned away into that universe, leaving nothing but the barren, dry husk of the planet.
Becks had worked tirelessly on a device, a machine capable of opening a portal to that very universe. But it was dangerous, and time was running out. The Hydro Vultures knew they were close to discovering the truth, and they would do everything in their power to stop them.
The group stood at the edge of a desolate canyon, their eyes scanning the horizon. The sun burned mercilessly in the sky, and the air was thick with heat.
"This is it," Aegen said, his voice low. "The last lead. Becks, you’re sure about this?"
Becks, adjusting his glasses nervously, nodded. "I’ve run the calculations a thousand times. The Syndicate’s headquarters is located beneath this canyon. They’ve been hiding their portal here all along. We just need to find the right entrance."
Leya folded her arms across her chest, her eyes narrowed in thought. "And when we do, we need to be ready. The Hydro Vultures won’t let us in without a fight."
Aegen nodded, the familiar weight of his blade heavy at his side. "Let them come. We’re ready."
Scott grunted in agreement, his massive hands gripping the hilt of his axe. "I’m tired of waiting. Let’s finish this."
The group began their descent into the canyon, moving carefully to avoid the jagged rocks that could betray their steps. As they ventured deeper, the air grew colder, a strange contrast to the searing heat above. Becks led the way, his portable device scanning the area for any signs of the portal’s hidden entrance.
"This way," Becks said, pointing toward a large rock formation. "The portal’s location should be directly under that cluster of rocks."
As they approached the formation, a loud screech echoed in the distance—followed by the unmistakable sound of engines. Aegen’s heart raced. The Hydro Vultures had found them.
"They’re here," Aegen said, his voice tense. "Get ready."
Within seconds, a group of heavily armed Hydro Vultures soldiers appeared at the canyon’s entrance, their vehicles kicking up clouds of dust as they barreled toward the group. The soldiers wore armored suits with the symbol of a vulture emblazoned on their chests, a reminder of their ruthless control over the planet’s water.
"Well, well," a man’s voice called out from the leader of the group, "what do we have here? A band of thirsty rebels trying to take back what they’ll never get."
Aegen stepped forward, his eyes cold. "We’re not here for your approval. We’re here to take back what’s ours."
The Hydro Vultures leader smirked, raising his weapon. "You really think you can stop us? You’ve been chasing shadows for too long. The water you seek is already beyond your reach, in a universe you can never access."
Leya stepped up beside Aegen, her voice steady. "We’ll see about that."
With a swift movement, she drew her pistol and fired, hitting the first soldier in the chest. The group immediately sprang into action. Scott swung his axe with deadly precision, cutting through enemy ranks, while Becks fumbled with his device, trying to get it to work under pressure.
Aegen’s blade flashed as he fought through the soldiers, each strike calculated, each movement precise. He was a force of nature, a warrior on a mission. But even he knew that they were running out of time. Becks needed to activate the portal before it was too late.
"Becks!" Aegen shouted as he took down another soldier. "Do it now!"
Becks nodded, his fingers flying across the device’s interface. "Almost there… just a few more seconds!"
The Hydro Vultures leader gritted his teeth, his anger palpable. "You think you can stop us? The water is already gone from this world, and soon, so will you be!"
But Aegen had no intention of losing. With a final, swift move, he dispatched the leader and turned toward Becks. The device hummed to life, its lights flashing as the portal began to open, revealing a shimmering, ethereal gateway.
"We’re going in," Aegen said, his voice filled with determination. "Let’s finish this."
As the portal widened, the group stood at its threshold, ready to step into the unknown universe where the water they sought was being kept. The battle for Earth’s survival was about to enter its final stage.
The hidden world
Aegen and his companions stepped through the shimmering portal, their eyes adjusting to the new, surreal environment that greeted them. The air here was different—cooler, fresher, and the ground beneath their feet felt soft and solid. The landscape stretched out before them, lush and vibrant, a stark contrast to the desolate wasteland they had left behind. Towering trees with glowing leaves stood beside crystal-clear rivers, and in the distance, massive cities of gleaming towers loomed, suspended high above the ground by some form of advanced technology.
Aegen's heart raced with both awe and disbelief. "This... this is nothing like what we expected."
Leya stepped forward, her sharp eyes scanning their surroundings. "It’s beautiful... but it's not real. It’s a lie."
Becks adjusted his glasses, his mind racing as he processed the new world around him. "This is where all the water is going. The Hydro Vultures aren’t just stealing the water—they’ve built an entire society here, a world for the rich and powerful. We’re standing in their paradise."
Scott grunted in agreement, looking around with suspicion. "Looks like they’ve been hiding in plain sight. The poor bastards back home don’t even know this place exists."
Aegen’s jaw tightened as he gazed toward the towering city in the distance. "We need to get inside. We’re here to take back what’s ours."
As they made their way deeper into the strange world, the group noticed something even more unsettling. The people who lived here were not like those they had seen in the wasteland. These people were well-dressed, their faces radiating an eerie sense of contentment. They moved with ease, as if the world around them had been built for their comfort. No one seemed to notice the strangers who had just entered their realm.
Leya frowned. "This place is like a paradise, but it's all built on stolen resources. These people... they don’t know where the water’s really coming from. They think it's just here."
Becks looked around, taking in the advanced technology that powered the floating cities. "It’s all artificial. This entire world is a playground for the rich. The Hydro Vultures are using the water as currency, and they’ve created this illusion of utopia for themselves."
The group continued to move cautiously through the city, blending in with the crowds as best they could. They avoided attracting attention, knowing that if they were discovered, the consequences could be disastrous. They needed to find the central hub, the heart of the Hydro Vultures’ operations, and dismantle it.
As they navigated the city, Aegen’s mind raced. The leader of the Hydro Vultures, the man who had masterminded this entire operation, still had no idea that imposters had entered his world. The syndicate was blinded by their own greed, thinking they were untouchable. They had no idea that the very people they had oppressed were now standing on the brink of reclaiming their future.
"We need to get to the heart of this operation," Aegen said, his voice filled with determination. "Find the water supply and shut it down. If we can expose this place to the people, maybe they’ll see the truth."
Scott nodded, gripping his axe tighter. "And if the Hydro Vultures try to stop us, we’ll make sure they regret it."
Leya’s eyes flashed with resolve. "They’ve had control for too long. It’s time to take it back."
They moved quickly, avoiding the watchful eyes of the city’s inhabitants as they made their way toward the tallest tower in the center. This, they believed, was where the Hydro Vultures’ leader resided, hidden behind layers of security and wealth. It was also where the last of the world’s water was being siphoned into another universe—into their utopia.
Aegen couldn’t help but feel the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders. They had come so far, crossed into an unknown world, and now they were closer than ever to their goal. But they knew that with the Hydro Vultures unaware of their presence, time was on their side For now
The plan to confront Aytran
Aegen, Leya, Scott, and Becks gathered in a secluded alley within the floating city, hidden from the watchful eyes of the wealthy inhabitants. The group knew that the time had come to execute their plan—if they were going to defeat the Hydro Vultures and reclaim the stolen water, they needed to strike fast and hard.
"First things first," Aegen said, his voice low but steady, "we need to get inside Aytran's compound. We know he's the one pulling the strings here. If we can take him down, we cut the heart out of the syndicate."
Leya nodded, her eyes sharp as she reviewed their options. "The compound is heavily fortified, but there’s one weak spot—the ventilation system. We can use that to infiltrate from below and avoid most of the guards."
Becks, who had been scanning the data he’d stolen from the city’s network, added, "I’ve found the schematics. The ventilation system connects directly to the main water control room. If we can sabotage it, we’ll stop the flow of water from Earth to this world."
Scott cracked his knuckles, a grin spreading across his face. "Sounds good. I’ll take out any guards in our way. Once we’re inside, I’ll clear the path."
Aegen looked at each of his companions, his gaze unwavering. "We stick together. We get in, stop Aytran, and destroy the water supply. Once that’s done, we expose this world for what it really is."
The plan was set. They would infiltrate Aytran’s compound, sabotage the water control system, and defeat the Hydro Vultures’ leader before he even knew what hit him.
