Chapter One
"Mom, I’m going for a walk!" I say
"Alright, but be careful and make sure they don’t see your fae side!" Mother says
"I know, I know," I say, using my magic to hide my wings and putting my silver hair into a bun.
After my run, I stop by a stream to drink some water. When I hear gunshots and screams in the distance, I look in the direction of the sounds. "Oh no," I whisper. Jumping up, I grab the drooping branch and climb up, hiding myself in the trees and looking at my town in the distance. It was burning, and everyone was screaming and running while the humans caught them all and put them in the cages.
"They did the same thing to my people." I jump at the male voice behind me. I turned around to see a guy who looked around my age with raven hair that reached his shoulder. His sharp eyes were red, and he had a strong jawline. He looked amused and raised an eyebrow. "Are you done gawking? I know I’m hot, but you don’t need to gawk." Ok, he was good-looking; I would’ve totally married him by now if he wasn’t so annoying already, and I haven’t even known him for longer than one minute!
"What are you?" I asked, and he obviously wasn’t a fae or even an elf; he had a different aura.
"A vampire," he said. My face must’ve shown confusion, because then he said, "The last one I escaped before they caught me."
"Oh"
"I know where they keep them. I’ve been spying on them; I just need to come up with a plan," he explains.
"Why didn’t you just use your vampiric powers on them?" I ask
He sighs as if he’s talking to an i***t, saying, "If it were that easy, then all of my people would be here and not there." He points towards where the humans are now taking my people. I want to go down there and fight them, but I know I can’t. There are too many of them and only one of me.
"Then how do we get them?" I ask
"I’ve been working on it. Come with me. I know people who can help us," he says.
We wait for a while before we’re sure the humans are gone and get off the tree. We both start walking east, away from the humans and my now-ruined village. I hear shuffling behind me and the sound of walking. I turn around to see someone hiding behind a tree. Just as I’m about to go up to them, they come out, and I see that it’s Cathy, one of the elves, and a very spoiled one at that too. She always bullied me and other girls for no reason. At the moment however, she looked helpless, her usually beautiful clothes were battered and ruined, her blue hair had bits of dirt and grime in it and she had cuts and bruises all over her.
“Can I please come with you too?” She asks
“Sur— “no” the vampire cut me off.
“But she needs help! I mean don’t get me wrong I would totally leave her here too but look at her!” I say to him. Cathy glares at me for the last bit but I ignore her
He lets out a “fine” through his gritted teeth and I see fangs before he turns around and walking without eating for us.
“How much farther is it?” I ask before sitting down a rock. We’d been walking for hours and now we in the dark crow forest.
“Almost there” the vampire—who told me his name was Ezra—says
“That’s what you said 30 minutes ago!” I whine
“It was only 5 minutes ago Emerald” Cathy rolls her eye at me and I glare at her.
Ezra comes up to me and suddenly picks me up. “W-what are you doing” I ask
He just stares at me “you got yourself a free ride. I’m only doing this one time so enjoy.” He says and starts walking. I hear Cathy mutter something under her breath and catch up with us.
After 30 minutes we stand in front of a giant cave that is blocked by a giant stone. “We’re here” Ezra says.
