I was stunned. My fingerprints on the documents inside the safe . . does that mean that I had been there that night? The police thought so. Tattoo Face thought so. And I was no longer sure. And the note from Denning. Was he calling me LIAR because I had reported that he had been killed? Or did he also believe that I had been at the Seebolds that night? But that was ridiculous. How could he have possibly known that? Yet it appeared that he knew Thornton was going to be killed, and had sent the KILLER note. Could he have been involved in the robbery? No. That was a wild stupid thought, but what did his notes mean? What did he want? Too much was happening and I struggled to think logically. Nothing made any sense.
