~ Eyes still heavy from sleep, I woke up to the obnoxious sound of my cellphone ringing relentlessly, "Ugh! Why did I even set that as my ringtone?" Groggily, I rolled to my side, grabbing the phone from the bedside table, "Hello?" "Good morning Dr.Williams, we have an emergency at the hospital. Dr. Lim had to take an urgent leave. We are so sorry to call you up on your day off." Another morning starting with a phone call. "Yes, I understand. I'll be there as soon as possible". Despite my drowsiness from constant lack of sleep, I quickly got rid of the appealing warmth of my cozy bed. There was an emergency at the hospital, and I knew I had to hurry. After quickly getting done with my morning chores, I hastily left for the hospital. But they say, 'He who is in a hurry, always arrives late' Today, my car decided to take a toll on me. It won't start no matter how many times I try. "No! Not now", I grumbled in frustration. Without wasting further time, I got out of my car & called my neighbour, Peter for help. ･☆¸¸.•¨• *Backstory, Annie's perspective* Peter & I, go way back. We have been best friends since we were like 5. We went to the same school, same college & guess what? We even share our work place. Like me, he is also a surgeon in SHL National Hospital, London. Although, to be honest, initially our parents didn't quite like our friendship. They thought, one of us was a bad influence on the other. But that couldn't keep us from sticking together! However, with years passing-by, they understood how much this friendship meant to us. We were always together, inseparable. ･☆¸¸.•¨• I kept knocking at his door several times.. "Pete! I swear I'll break your door & tear your ears off if you don't open the door in 10, 9, 8, 7.....2 and.." "Oof! Why do you have to be so loud on a day off?", he said while opening the door. "I've got an emergency call from the hospital. I've to reach there ASAP! Hurry up, I need your car" "What happened to yours?" "Not working! Gimme your keys" "Calm down princess. I'll take you there. I don't want you dying on me. Just give me a minute" . . . After driving for almost 20mins, we finally reached the hospital. "Thanks a ton, mate. I owe you one", I said, grabbing my stuff, hurrying inside the building. •─────✧─────• ||At the hospital|| "Good morning ma'am. Sorry for having you come on such a short notice", said the staff, apologetically. "It's fine. Give me a quick update on the case" "It's a case of RTA. 29year old male. The patient has suffered severe trauma in the head & neck region, internal bleeding from the fractured ribs. Dr. Park has attended the patient. Patient is currently under ventilation. The OR has already been prepared. We were waiting for you to arrive." "Okay. Inform Dr. Park to start with the surgery, I'll be joining in 5mins. Kindly leave the patient's history on the table, along with the current record of his vital stats" . "Yes, ma'am" . I quickly took a look at the history so that I don't miss anything. Without wasting much time, I joined the team for the surgery. . . . *Third person's POV* . After successfully completing the surgery, Dr.Williams & Dr.Park were coming out of the OR, followed by their team. "Great job there, Dr. Williams", said the humble man, congratulating Annie. She smiled at him, "Thanks, couldn't have done it without you" "I didn't thi-" Before Dr.Park could complete what he was about to say, someone suddenly yanked Annie by her arms. It took Annie a while to realise what just happened. At first, she tried to understand what was the man saying, but after a while she gave up on that idea when she saw him speaking in some foreign language that she couldn't quite decipher. . She looked at him straight in the eye, saying, "Excuse me Sir, could you kindly let go of my arms? But the man kept looking at her intensely. Instead, his grip tightened around her arms, causing her skin to start bruising slightly. . 'Damn, that hurts!' . "Please, calm down Sir. I don't understand anything you are saying. You are hurting me right now. Let go", Annie sternly stated. But the man did not even move a muscle. . Suddenly, a man with blonde hair came running right up and said something to him as he immediately let go of her arms. The blonde man said, "I am extremely sorry for my friend's unacceptable behaviour. Hello, I am Kim Nam-joon & this is my friend Kim Seok-jin. We are here to see our childhood friend Lee Chang-ho. Is he alright?" Although Annie was a bit irritated, she kept her composure & answered, "Your friend is currently out of danger but we still have to wait & look out for the post-surgical complications." "Thank you so much, ma'am! We are really grateful", said Nam-joon & nudged Seok-jin to bow along with him, but he stood there like a pillar. 'What is wrong with this man?', she thought. But before she could ask anything, he quickly turned on his heels & left. . Nam-joon apologized for his friend's rudeness & left to follow him in a hurry. 'Such a weirdo', she scoffed. . ■□■□■ .
