Chapter 22: Then
The next few months after the "Shirt-Tearing Incident," as I"ve come to call it in my mind, are strained - to say the least. A couple days after it happens, just after turning out the lights for bed, I hear Scott push back the covers on our bed and slip out of the room. I realize after some time has passed that he"s not coming back, and I"m jolted with feelings of intense relief. I feel my whole body relax with the understanding that I don"t have to lie next to him. I get up the next morning and through the open crack in the door to the first floor office, I see the sofa bed pulled out. It appears that Scott has turned the office into his own personal retreat.
