Dreamers Episode VI

Chapter 6           Amy had been separated from the rest of the children on the compound. Dr. Green had told her that she needed to be in a new program instead. She would have been fine with that except Levi hadn’t been moved with her. Dr. Green had told her it was his request to remain with the others. Amy was sure she was lying to her. Afterall, Levi was her pair. He wouldn’t have wanted to be away from her. She knew him better than anyone else. She wasn’t sure why she had been lied to but figured they were punishing her for attacking Rose. She would simply have to play the part of a good girl until they allowed her to go back.           The new classes she found herself in though, were much more entertaining than the other ones. Instead of trying to make her stronger she had been taken out of the training. Now she sat at a desk all day watching videos on what people considered horrific events. Amy found them fun to watch. She couldn’t get enough of them and was glad that history had so many of them for her to learn from.           She learned about war, disease, famines, and riots. Her favorites were the ones about specific criminals. They showed her everything from petty crimes to serial killers. She hoped after she had seen all there was that she would be allowed to reenact some of her favorites. Amy had been given a notebook and pencil to write down her thoughts on as she watched each one. She wasn’t sure what the reason was, but she used it to plot and plan. She even wrote out where she thought they had each gone wrong. This was a far more useful class to her as far as she could tell. She only wished that Levi was there, learning with her. The things they would do together when they were older excited her to think about. It was ok that he wasn’t there. He may be allowed to watch them later. If not, she would teach him.           The only times she was permitted to see him anymore was during the tests. Amy and Levi had begun being taken to the lab for examinations and blood draws. She had over heard Dr. Green talking to one of the doctors how she and Levi were different. She didn’t understand what that meant exactly but if she could see Levi she didn’t care. None of the others were ever brought in either. Just the two of them. From what she managed to get out of Levi, the other kids didn’t have to go to the labs. She was sure that was important yet didn’t know how. There would be time to figure that out.           She made sure not to write down anything Levi told her. Nor anything she was trying to figure out from overhearing things. Every day at the end of her class her notebook was collected, and she was dismissed. She had looked over her shoulder at the instructor as she left the room one time and saw them reading what she wrote. Amy didn’t really care if they read what she wrote in class, but she knew better then to write down anything else.           Not even the things in her room were safe. She had been given drawing paper and supplies as well as another notebook. If they were looking at her things from class, then they were probably going through her things in her room as well. They didn’t disturb anything while she was in class though. She had set up little traps that no one would notice but her. The only times she noticed they had been tripped was after her trips to the lab.           She had whispered this to Levi knowing they were probably going through his things as well. He didn’t seem bothered by the thought when she told him, but she was sure he was keeping an eye on his things like she was. There were certain items in Levi’s room that were very important to him. He would become angry whenever someone messed with them. Even her. When they had first roomed together, she had figured out which things set him off and which ones didn’t. She knew how to make hurt him without laying a finger on him. After she moved out into her own room, he became happier. At least until he found that she could still mess with his things to get back at him when he upset her. He didn’t talk to her as much after that. He still spent time with her, but he wouldn’t really do anything else.           She missed her friend that she had first met in Dr. Green’s office. The one that seemed to like it when she did things to other people. He had changed and she didn’t like it. There was nothing she could do about it anyway. Dr. Green had said he was growing up and that everyone becomes different as they got older. He would probably grow out of it. Amy wasn’t so sure, but she was willing to wait. He was made for her after all just as she was for him.           They had been told a little bit when they were first moved to the compound. It wasn’t much though. Anything she had learned after that were because of the other kids talking. The older ones liked to brag about assignments they were preparing to go on. Amy thought they were stupid. Why be happy only doing things when the instructors allowed it. They should get to do whatever they wanted when they got older.           The video ended drawing Amy from her thoughts. She quickly finished writing in the notebook before she was collected for dinner. When the door opened, she was surprised to see Dr. Green follow the instructor into the room. It wasn’t a day that she was scheduled to go to the lab. She watched and waited to see why she was there. The instructor collected her things from the desk as Dr. Green approached Amy with a wide smile.           “Amy, I would like if you would come with me.” Amy got up from her seat ready to follow her out the door.           “Where are we going?” Dr. Green smiled down at her like she had said something right.           “I have someone I’d like you to meet.” The vague answer didn’t give anything away, but Amy was curious enough to follow anyway.
