After a long while, Wu Chengyu started to pack his things and took some books with him. Locking the door, he immediately went towards the right. He walked straight and then, after turning to the left, he arrived in front of a room with golden patterns and knocked two times. After half a minute passed, the door slowly creaked open and Aunt Shiue’s stern expression was slowly revealed.
Wu Chengyu awkwardly smiled. He was about to explain when Aunt Shuie’s hand suddenly snaked towards his right ear, pinching it. Aunt Shuie’s fingers were like fliers as they gripped with strength. “Aii, aii, grandma what are you doing? It hurts!”
Wu Chengyu called Aunt Shuie grandma because Bai Cihui wanted him to view Aunt Shuie as a close relative. So, during these past years, Aunt Shuie became the grandmother figure of Wu Chengyu.
“Silly brat! Time and time again. How many times do I have to tell you?
You're always late! What if you meet your step-brothers and cousins? Are you not afraid of being beaten by them once again?”
Wu Chengyu smiled apologetically and held Aunt Shuie’s hands at the same time, displaying a pitiful look.
“Then do you wish for this grandchild of yours to be beaten by them?”
“Of course not, silly brat!” Aunt Shuie snorted, but she still displayed a faint smile.
Wu Chengyu had past grudges with his step-siblings and cousins. While he was playing outside, his step-siblings made fun of him. He tried to fight back, but he was beaten through numbers.
“Besides, I am different now. I am not afraid of them. Last time they exploited my weakness and they relied on numbers. To think that they worked together in order to beat me, they are so shameless.”
Aunt Shuie faintly sighed and flicked Wu Chengyu’s forehead.
“Again, you should still follow what I say. Don’t act like a grown adult. You're still bare as a dried field down there.”
Wu Chengyu snorted and mumbled, “Actually, I am already old enough to decide for myself. You're just too conservative.” Aunt Shuie’s brows suddenly twitched as she sternly looked at Wu Chengyu in the eyes.
“What did you just say?”
Wu Chengyu rattled, immediately shaking his head.
“It’s nothing, grandma, it’s nothing.”
“Alright, go to your room and make sure to wash yourself because your odor stinks.”
Wu Chengyu immediately darted forward and headed straight towards his room.
When Wu Chengyu was gone, a woman dressed in a white robe walked out and stood beside Aunt Shuie. “Cihui, what happened to you? Why didn’t you open the door?”
Bai Cihui looked somewhat pale and worried.
“I was bothered by the dream I had last night. I couldn’t get rid of it out of my head.”
“You mean the dream you told me about earlier? Isn’t it just a dream? Why are you so worried?”
Aunt Shuie was confused as she looked at Bai Cihui.
“But this feeling… I feel something terrible might happen to Yu’er.”
“So that’s the reason you did not open the door? You're afraid of seeing your son?”
Bai Cihui shook her head.
“It’s not that I am afraid to see him. It’s just that in my dreams. I once welcomed him on his return and after that, a misfortune descended upon him. He was mercilessly killed by a group of thugs in the street.”
Tears flowed down Bai Cihui’s cheeks. She was afraid that her only son might leave her alone.
“Cihui, your still soft as always. You're still a worrywart and overthinks about small things. You should reduce such an attitude once in a while. You will not become strong if what you do is always to cry over small matters.”
Bai Cihui smiled slightly and tightly hugged Aunt Shuie.
Aunt Shuie patted Bai Cihui’s back and whispered something, then her stressed shoulders slowly relaxed.
“Mom?”
At this time, Wu Chengyu came back and saw his mother and Aunt Shuie hugging each other.
“Are they lesbians?” Wu Chengyu jokingly thought.
But then, when Bai Cihui turned around, he saw her wet eyes and somewhat worried expression. His gaze landed on Aunt Shuie, asking what was going on. Bai Cihui wiped the remaining tears on her cheeks and displayed a broad smile.
"It’s nothing, Yu’er. I just remembered some sad events, so Aunt Shuie comforted me.”
Wu Chengyu nodded and went forward. Grabbing Bai Cihui’s tender hands, Wu Chengyu reassured them.
“Don’t worry mother, grandma, tomorrow the clan will witness my talent. I will make you proud.”
Bai Cihui happily smiled and gently patted Wu Chengyu on the head.
“As long as you're safe. I am already satisfied.”
The trio immediately went to the dining hall to eat their dinner. Early in the morning, Wu Chengyu’s closed eyes opened. He slowly got up and listened to the birds chirping outside the courtyard. “The weather is good. I hope this is a good omen.” Wu Chengyu then turned around, heading towards the bathroom.
