Emma The house was quiet. Sophie had gone to bed without much fuss, exhausted from an afternoon of crafting and pizza. I lingered in the upstairs den a few minutes after tucking her in, making sure she was fully asleep before slipping back downstairs. I hadn’t seen Jack come in, but the faint rustling of movement in the kitchen told me that he was home. Taking a slow breath, I stepped into the doorway.
