Chapter 10 I rolled over and buried myself in thick and plush blanket. The smell of fresh laundry scents lingers, and I rubbed my eyes to see my surroundings. Oh? Adam is not here today. I felt a little bit disappointed he was not here. I heard a few agitated knocks on my doors, the person who was knocking on my door was running out of patience. “Who is there?” I asked. Elaine heave a sign of relieve and she said “Good morning Ms. Spencer. It is time for us to leave.” Elaine prompted me to wake up. “Hey good morning Elaine! I’m awake now. Will be ready in 10 minutes time.” I replied. I hopped out of my comfortable bed and jumped into the shower. I wore my casual jeans and pink blouse. I went out to check on Adam as he was unusually quiet today. “Good morning Ms. Spencer. We are flying to Malaysia, Sabah today.” as informed by Elaine. I glance over to Adam as he was studying on the Sabah map. His serious expression was so attractive and irresistible.  “Is everything alright Adam?” I asked. “Don’t fret. As long as I am here. Nobody could hurt you.” Adam replied. He progressed from his stern expression to smile at my direction. “The flight would last for about 2 hours. You could have your brunch on flight.” Elaine informed. I ordered a hearty meal and started to gulp down the food when it arrived. I was starving. Adam stared at me and smiled like he was looking at an alien species. I thought it was rude to stare at people. I continued listening to music after I was full. We took-off for yet another adventure. We arrived at Kota Kinabalu Airport at 3.35pm. The airport looks unkempt, but the people were friendly. Duncan ushered us out of the airport. He looks stern and serious. At the car park, there were 2 jeeps with malay driver were waiting for us. Andrew helped us to carry our luggage into the jeep. I asked Elaine “Where are we going anyway? Why is everyone looks so serious?” “We are going to Kudat for camping. It is near to the beach. The road journey will take about 3 hours. By the time when we reach there would be around 5pm evening.” Elaine answered. I can’t believe we really going for jungle trekking in tropical rain forest I thought to myself. It would be such a great experience. The journey was not very comfortable, the roads are muddy and uneven. The jeeps are hopping from one mud to another mud. Adam holding me tight to ensure I was safe. Along the way, we have passed through Aboriginal settlements at Kota Belud. In olden days the aboriginal used to hunt humans and hang their skulls at their doors to shown superiority. There were many oil palms trees and padi fields at the sides of the road. Looking at the trees make me felt calm and peaceful. I could smell fresh leaves and muddy scents. This is the smell of rain forest. “Sudah sampai. Boleh Turun.” Said the malay driver. “Terima Kasih.” Duncan answered. “We have arrived at the destination. We shall look for an even spot to camp at the beach.” Said Duncan. “Wow! You could speak their language.” I said in amazement. “I could converse in simple Malay as I was working in Malaysia for 2 years.” Duncan answered proudly. “The Malay driver will wait for us here until tomorrow morning to fetch us back to Airport.”. Andrew and Duncan were busy setting up the huge tents. It was ready in 20 minutes time. The tents were huge, you could set a fan and put two mattresses. Elaine and I will share a tent. While the guys will share another tent. Duncan and Andrew will take turns for night watch. Elaine and I were busy setting the pots and preparing simple dinner. Instant noodles and fried eggs are my specialty. The sun set as we were having our dinner. Adam cuddled me from behind and said, “I wish to give you only the best.” I smiled at him in return. “I will let you know what I am sooner so you could decide.” I puzzled and asked “What are you? Are you some sort of mystical beast?” I shrugged while staring at him. “You seem very human to me.” “Don’t only look at me. Look above.” Adam asked lovingly. I looked up and to my great surprise, the whole sky is sparkling with stars that looks like diamonds in this dark rain forest. “OMG! I could see the entire milky way from here.” I jumped out of his embrace and admire the wonder of the world. Milky way was so clear and near at Kudat sky, I could see with my naked eyes. “Milky way is the nearest to earth during this season. It is so enchanting but dangerous at the same time.” Adam warned. “There is news that pirates from Philippine would kidnap the tourist from this location and ask for ransom. But do not worry, as long as I am here, I will ensure your safety.” “I don’t need any protection. I could protect myself.” I told Adam as I continue to admire the Milky Way. We retired for the night as I slept under the blanket of a thousand stars.   “HEY!! WHO ARE YOU??” shouted Duncan. There is so much commotion outside that I woke up abruptly. To my horror, there were masked men entered my tent. Elaine had been trying to wake me up to flees together but it was too late. One of the men grabbed me and covered my mouth with clothe, it must be chloroform. The sky was spinning and soon I lost consciousness.
