The summer holiday was over, and I was back to the apartment. I told Mei Ling about the trip to Kudat, Malaysia but I must be careful not to spill the beans about Adam. She was so immersed with the photos, “I must visit Kudat one day, it is on my buckle list now.” She told.

We walked to the campus in the morning and noticed a shining white Toyota Land Cruiser with red ribbons parked in front of the campus. There I saw Adam with a bouquet of roses standing beside the car with a big smile across his face. “Hello Rica. Hi Mei Ling.” Adam greeted. “Hi Adam.” Mei Ling returned the greeting. “Is this car for me?” Mei Ling joked. At the time, there are many students surrounded us and taking a video of us. “This is for my Erica.” Adam replied with enthusiasm. “Thanks but no thanks. I don’t need a car. I can’t accept this.” I replied and walked away giving him a cold shoulder. The crowd around us let out a sigh of disappointment. “What’s wrong? I thought you had a great time at Kudat?” Mei Ling asked. “Yeah. But we are worlds apart. I don’t want to be enticed in this.” I replied. Mei Ling was confused by my statement.

During break time Mei Ling and I went to the cafeteria. Everyone was whispering and gossiping the moment we set our foot in the cafeteria. Derrek came to join us for lunch. “Hey Mei Ling, Hi Erica.” Derrek greeted. “You know the video about this morning is shared among the students. Adam is very distraught about this; he must be hiding somewhere crying.” Derrek joked. “Mei Ling could you help me to get some drinks? I want a cup of coffee.” I asked Mei Ling. “Alright. Are you sure?” Mei Ling asked, I nodded my head. Mei Ling left to order some drinks.

“I know that you both are Grim Reapers. It is impossible for us to be together.” I uttered

 “I know Adam told you about us already. Just live for the moment. We do not know what the future holds.” Derrek replied

 “I am not sure if I am up for this.”

 “There are ways to convert to Grim Reaper if you are willing to or vice versa” Derrek told.

 “Adam didn’t tell me about this. How do you convert? A bite on the neck like a vampire?” I joked.

Derrek laughed and said “You read too much vampire series. You must be imprisoned in the Almighty Court. If you gone through the test, then you need to drink leader’s blood for 3 consecutive days.”

“Drink leader’s blood which is Adam’s blood? That is so disgusting.” I said with disgust

“You shouldn’t worry about the blood. You should worry about the test. We don’t know what they will put you through.” Derrek exclaimed.

“Oh… I will think about it.”

At that moment, Mei Ling was back with the coffee. Derrek left the cafeteria for his class. “What you all talk about?” Mei Ling asked. “Nothing much.” I replied. It was getting dark when the classes ended, and we were on the way back to our apartment. Adam was at the same spot with roses waiting for me. His face was delighted when he saw me. “Hi Erica. Can we talk?” Adam told. I took the roses from his hands. “Mei Ling. Could you go back first. I need to sort things out with Adam.” I told Mei Ling. Mei Ling nodded and left the campus. “Where shall we go?” I asked Adam. “I will bring you some where you never been before.” He drove the Land Cruiser and parked in front of my apartment. “Urghh… To my house?” I shrugged. “Kindly unlock the door.” He said politely. I unlock the door as requested. “Hold on. Let me open the door.” Adam smirked.

We walked through the door and entered a different world. The sun was shining brightly. Adam closed the door behind me, I looked back, it was a cosy little cottage. “Where is this place?” I asked Adam eagerly. “We are at Hokkaido, Japan. It is best known for their beautiful flower fields.” The scenery was magnificent and breath-taking. There are Lavenders, Tulips spread across the fields. Lavenders and tulips started swaying and dancing as the wind blow. Lavender scents lingered around me; it had a calming effect on me. “Come here. Let me show you this.” Adam said. We walked across the Lavenders to the other end of the fields. Adam plucked a stalk of flower for me. “Wow! This is my flower.” I said with my heart fluttering with elation. Erica (heather) flower spread across the other end of the field. “This is so beautiful.” I pecked his lips softly.

“Ouch!” I exclaimed as I took out my stilettos.

“What’s wrong?” Adam asked tenderly.

“Nothing. This new pair of pumps have hurt my foot and scratched my heels.” I told Adam as I rubbed my foot softly.

“Don’t wear these anymore.” Adam scolded softly while removing both of my pumps and changes into his sneakers.

“No! I don’t need this.” I told him refusing to wear his sneakers.

“Be a good girl. Now your body is not yours alone. You are my better half.” Adam told me with a smile across his face while he walked bare foot, holding my hand and carrying my pumps in another hand.

We walked into the famous Izakaya restaurant to order sushi and sashimi with sake as drinks. I ordered my favourite beef ramen and he ordered cod fish with mentaiko. The restaurant had a huge French window that was over-looking the lavender meadow. It was a comfort to have our meal together with such a magnificent scenery. We had a fruitful trip and excellent meal at Japan. After the meal, he opened the restaurant’s door and we are back at the front of my apartment. Wow! This is mind-blowing.

“Do you have a driving license? Please keep the Land Cruiser” Adam prompted.

“Yes, I have license, but I can’t accept this. This is too expensive.” I rejected his offer.

“This gift is not expensive for our family. We can totally afford this. This is for your safety. I can’t let walk to school every day.” Adam persuaded me to accept his gift.

“Mei Ling and I walk to school every day. I don’t see a problem with that.” I snapped.

“Alright. I will just park this car in front of your apartment, and I will put the car key on your dressing table.” Adam kissed me softly and he left. I went back to my apartment, put my books on my table and found the car key on my dressing table. I rolled my eyes.
